OFUDESAKI/CHAPTER 5 /1874
Imamade wa gyuba to yu wa mama aredo
Ato saki shireta koto wa arumai 5-1
Until now there has been much talk of rebirth (causality) as oxens or horses,
but there has been no one who knows his past or future.
Konotabi wa saki naru koto o kono yo kara
Shirashite oku de mi ni sawari miyo 5-2
This time, I shall make your future known in this life.
Look at the disorder of your body (illness as God’s guidance).
Kono yo wa ika hodo waga mi omotemo
Kami no rippuku kore wa kanawan 5-3
In this world, however much you may be concerned about yourself,
God’s anger, This will not do.
Meme ni waga mi shiyan wa iran mono
Kami ga sorezore miwake suru zo ya 5-4
None of you needs self centered concerns.
God will distinguish between each of you.
Hito yashiki onaji kurashite iru uchi ni
Kami mo hotoke mo aru to omoe yo 5-5
Among living in the same residence,
know that there is both high person (not know God) and merciful person.
Kore o mite ikana mono demo tokushin se
Zen to aku to o wakete miseru de 5-6
If you see this, be convinced, whoever you may be.
I shall distinguish between good and evil (by placing illness).
Kono hanashi mina ichiretsu wa shiyan seyo
Onaji Kokoro wa sarani arumai 5-7
Ponder over this talk, all of you in the world.
There is no mind the same as another.
Oyako demo fufu no naka mo kyodai mo
Mina meme ni Kokoro chigau de 5-8
Even between parent and child, husband and wife, and siblings,
their minds all differ from one another.
Sekaiju doko no mono towa yuwan de na
Kokoro no hokori mi ni sawari tsuku 5-9
Indicating no one in the world in particular,
I say to you that the dust of the mind causes harm to the body.
Minouchi no nayamu koto oba shiyan shite
Kami ni motareru Kokoro shiyan se 5-10
Ponder over your sufferings of the body.
Ponder a mind that leans on God.
Dono yona mutsukashi koto to yuta tote
Kami no juyo hayaku misetai 5-11
I do not say any difficult things.
God’s free and unlimited working I would like quickly to show.
Imamade wa Kami no juyo shinjitsu o
Shitaru mono wa sarani nai node 5-12
Until now, there has been no one who truly knows
God’s free and unlimited workings.
Korekara wa ikana mutsukashi yamai demo
Kokoro shidai ni naoran de nashi 5-13
From now on, no matter how serious the illness may be,
there is no illness that is incurable depending on the mind (illness brought about by guidance).
Shinjitsu no Kokoro o Kami ga uketoreba
Ikana juyo shite miseru de na 5-14
If God accepts your sincere mind,
I will show you any kind of free and unlimited workings (God’s blessings).
Kora hodono Kami no shinjitsu kono hanashi
Soba naru mono wa hayaku satore yo 5-15
This talk is truly God’s truth.
Those who will be close to me, quickly understand.
Kore saika hayaku satori ga tsuita nara
Nani ni tsuitemo mina kono dori 5-16
If understanding quickly comes to you (Sincerity of mind will bring upon God’s blessings),
whatever happen, everything will proceed in this manner (True sincerity brings upon blessings).
Kyomade wa nani yono koto mo sekane domo
Mo sekikomu de okwan no michi 5-17
Until today, I have never hastened you in any way.
But now I hasten you to a broad path (Performing the Joyous Service with true sincerity will bring upon God’s blessings).
Kono michi wa sekainami towa omouna yo
Kore matsudai no koki hajimari 5-18
Never think this path is worldly common.
It is the beginning of the Divine Record for eternity.
Kono ninju doko ni aru towa yuwan de na
Minouchi sawari mina kuru de aro 5-19
I do not say where the members (for prayer) will be found.
All would come because of disorders of the body (weeding).
Kono sawari tebiki iken mo rippuku mo
Mina meme ni shiyan shite miyo 5-20
These disorders are from my guidance, admonition, or anger.
Ponder each of you over your bodies.
Kono hanashi nanto omote kiite iru
Kawai amarite kudoku koto nari 5-21
What are you thoughts on hearing this talk
I appeal to you repeatedly out of my deep love for you.
Dono yoni iken rippuku yuta tote
Kore tasuken to sarani yuwan de 5-22
However I may express my admonition or anger,
I do not say there will be no salvation.
Ningen no waga ko no iken omote miyo
Hara no tatsu no mo kawai yue kara 5-23
Think of humans admonishing your children,
the anger comes from love.
Shiyan shite Kokoro sadamete tsuitekoi
Sue wa tanomoshi michi ga aru zo ya 5-24
Ponder and come to me with a firm resolved mind.
There is a path of hope for you.
Imamade wa Kokoro chigai wa arita tote
Hi ga kitaran de miyurushite ita 5-25
Until now your mind was wrong.
The day had not come, I have overlooked it.
Konotabi wa nandemo kademo mune no uchi
Soji o suru de mina shochi seyo 5-26
This time, by all means I shall sweep clean the inner
most hearts. Everyone ponder please.
Mune no uchi soji o suru to yu no mo na
Kami no omowaku fukaku aru kara 5-27
The reason for this sweeping of the innermost hearts
is that the intent of God is strong.
Kono soji sukiyaki shitate sen koto ni
Mune no shinjitsu wakari nai kara 5-28
Unless this sweeping is thoroughly accomplished,
no one will understand the truth of the heart (causality).
Kono kokoro shin kara wakari tsuita nara
Kono yo hajimari te o tsukeru nari 5-29
This mind, if you understand it from the original mind (having a pure mind).
This mankind beginning hand perform it (perform the joyous service).
Chikamichi mo yoku mo koman nai yoni
Tada hitosuji no honmichi ni deyo 5-30
Take no short cuts, have no greed or arrogance.
Just take the true and straight path (pure mind performing the Joyous Service).
Kono michi ni tsuitaru naraba itsu made mo
Kore Nippon no koki naru no ya 5-31
This path when it is completed,
this will become the Divine record for Nihon forever.
Nihon nimo koki ga deketa koto naraba
Nandemo kara o mamani suru nari 5-32
When the divine record is made in nihon (1887),
I shall manage Kara as I please.
Kono yo o hajimete kara no shinjitsu o
Mada imamade wa yuta koto nashi 5-33
I have not spoken yet about the truth
of things that came after I began mankind.
Kono hanashi mutsukashi koto de aru keredo
Yuwazu ni ireba tare mo shiran de 5-34
This talk will be difficult,
but if it is left untold, no one will know.
Dandan to dono yona koto mo yute kikasu
Kokoro shizumete shikato kiku nari 5-35
Step by step, I will tell you of any and all matters.
Calm your minds (remove evil/dust) and listen closely.
Imamade wa ika naru ho to yuta tote
Mo Korekara wa ho wa kikan de 5-36
Until now, there has been talk about various magical rites.
From now on, magical rites shall have no effect.
Koremade wa edasaki nitewa ho nazo to
Oshiete aredo saki o mite iyo 5-37
In the past , such magical rites have been taught to the branches,
but watch the future.
Nihon niwa imamade nanimo shirai demo
Korekara saki no michi o tanoshume 5-38
Nihon has known nothing until now,
but look forward to the future path.
Ho ya tote tare ga suru towa omouna yo
Kono yo hajimete Kami no nasu koto 5-39
About magical rites, do not wonder who was making them effective.
They were made effective by the God who began the world.
Dono yona mutsukashi koto to yuta tote
Kami ga shinjitsu uketorita nara 5-40
However difficult things that are said
if only your sincerity is accepted by God (Sincerity in performing the Joyous Service).
Imamade wa kara ya nihon to yutaredo
Korekara saki wa nihon bakari ya 5-41
Until now, there has been talk of Kara and Nihon,
but from now on there will be only Nihon in the future (all mankind purified).
Edasaki wa oki ni miete akan mono
Kamaeba oreru saki o mite iyo 5-42
The branches (kara) may look big, but they are weak
and break when handled. Watch the future (saying that the people will change to nihon).
Moto naru wa chiisai yo de ne ga erai
Dono yona koto mo moto o shiru nari 5-43
The origin beginning may seem small, but the root is great.
In all things know the origin (pure mind of God).
Jitsu ya tote ho ga erai to omouna yo
Kokoro no makoto kore ga shinjitsu 5-44
Do not think that incantations or magical arts are great.
The mind’s sincerity, this is the truth (The mind’s sincerity in performing the Joyous Service).
Ningen wa azanai mono de aru karani
Mezurashi koto o ho naz to yu 5-45
As you humans are shallow,
you say marvelous things are from magic.
Imamade wa Kami ga araware detaru tote
Mada shinjitsu o shireta mono nashi 5-46
Even until now, though God is openly revealed,
there is still no one who knows the truth.
Konosaki wa dono yona koto mo shinjitsu o
Oshiete oita koto de aru nara 5-47
Hereafter, when I have taught you
the truth of all things,
sorekara, wa Kami no hataraki nanimo kamo
juyojizai o shite miseru de na 5-48
then, I will show you my work of
free and unlimited working on everything.
Shinjitsu no Kami no hataraki shikaketara
Sekai ichiretsu Kokoro sumikiru 5-49
When God in truth begins to work (begins to show blessings upon performing the Joyous Service, new members come to our churches),
the minds of all in the world will be purified.
Hataraki mo ika naru koto to omou kana
Kokoro uketori shidai kayashi o 5-50
What are your thoughts concerning my workings?
I shall give returns when I accept your minds (accept true sincerity when performing the Joyous Service).
Kono kayashi nanino koto ya to omou kana
Michinori sen ri hedate aritemo 5-51
What do you think these returns are about (returns as illness/guidance)?
They will reach one a thousand leagues away (bring new members to our churches from far away).
Kono koto wa nani o yutemo omotemo
Uketori shidai suguni kayashi o 5-52
This topic, whatever one may say or think,
As soon as receiving it (sincere prayer), I shall quickly give returns.
Kono kayashi nanno koto ya to omouna yo
Zen aku tomoni mina kayasu de na 5-53
These returns, what do you think about them?
I shall give returns for both good and evil.
Yoki koto o yutemo ashiki omotemo
Sono mama suguni kayasu koto nari 5-54
Whether good or evil is spoken
I shall give returns at once as deserved.
Kono koto o miekita naraba ichiretsu wa
Donna mono demo mina sumiwataru 5-55
If this begins to been seen, my purification will reach
any and everyone in the whole world (This is only made possible by the performance of the Joyous Service).
Kyonohi wa nani ga mieru ya nai keredo
Hachi gatsu o miyo mina mieru de na 5-56
Today, though nothing is seen,
look toward the eighth month. Then everything will be seen.
Mieru no mo nanino koto yara shiremai na
Takai yama kara okwan no michi 5-57
Perhaps you cannot foresee what is going to appear.
From the high mountains, a broad path will open (Prayer brings forth God’s blessings /illness to our potential new members).
Kono michi o tsukeyo tote ni shikoshirae
Soba naru mono wa nanimo shirazu ni 5-58
I have been preparing to open this path,
but those of you that will be close to me know nothing.
Kono toko e yobi ni kuru no mo detekuru mo
Kami no omowaku aru kara no koto 5-59
This place, people come to inquire or come out by themselves because
God’s expectations (forewarning) exist.
Sono koto o nanimo shirazu ni soba naru wa
Sekainami naru koto o omote 5-60
Knowing nothing about this, you who will be close to me
think of it only in worldly terms (do not understand due to dust in the mind).
Nani nitemo sekainami towa omouna y
Nanika mezurashi michi ga aru zo ya 5-61
Whatever happens, never think it is worldly
What a marvelous path there is!
Dandan to kono yo hajimete hi wa tatedo
Tare ka shinjitsu shirita mono nashi 5-62
Gradually as the day that mankind was created passes
there is no one who knows the truth.
Ika hodoni Kami no kokoro wa seta tote
Mina no kokoro wa mada ukkari to 5-63
No matter how the mind of God hastens,
the minds of all of you are yet unattentive (have too much evil/dust in mind).
Hayabaya to shiyan shite mite sekikome yo
Ne horu moyo nande shiteden 5-64
Quickly ponder, and hasten to see.
Why are you not preparing to dig up the root (Original mind).
Kono yo no shinjitsu ne no horikata o
Shiritaru mono wa sarani nai node 5-65
There is no one who knows the way to
dig up the world’s true root (original mind).
Kono ne o shinjitsu horita koto naraba
Makoto tanomoshi michi ni naru no ni 5-66
If you have all truly dug up this root (the original mind),
this path will become truly promising.
Kono michi o horikiri tori nuketa nara
Kami shimo tomoni kokoro isamu ni 5-67
When you all have completed and extracted the root (Origin),
both the high and the low mind’s will be spirited.
Korekara wa nandemo sekai ichiretsu o
Isameru moyo bakari suru zo ya 5-68
From now on, I shall make every effort solely for
the preparation to make everyone in the world spirited.
Dandan to nani goto nitemo nihon niwa
Shiran koto owa nai to yu yoni 5-69
Whatever happens, little by little, I shall teach you
so that there will be nothing unknown in Nihon.
Nanimo kamo sekaiju e oshietai
Kami no omowaku fukaku aru no ni 5-70
I desire to teach the whole world about all matters.
The intention of God is truly deep.
Sore shirazu sekaiku wa ichiretsu ni
Nando abunaki yoni omote 5-71
Unaware of this, all the world
thinks my teachings are somewhat dangerous.
Dono yona koto demo Kami no yu koto ya
Nanno abunaki koto ga aru zo ya 5-72
Whatever I say, it is the word of God.
What danger can there be?
Nanimo kamo yorozu no koto o dandan to
Yute inagara wakaritaru nashi 5-73
Though little by little, any and all matters are spoken
there is no understanding.
Korekara wa dozo shinjitsu mune no uchi
Hayaku sumasuru moyo shite kure 5-74
From now on, please quickly make preparations
truly to purify your innermost heart (removing greed, arrogance, self love from the mind).
Sekaiju oku no hito de aru karani
Kore sumasuru ga mutsukashii koto 5-75
As there are a great number of people in the world,
to purify all of them will be difficult.
Ika hodoni mutsukashi koto to yuta tote
Waga kokoro yori shinjitsu o miyo 5-76
However difficult things are said to be,
see the truth through your own mind.
Kono kokoro sumushi wakarita koto naraba
Sono mama mieru koto de aru nari 5-77
When the mind is made pure and open to reasoning,
it will be seen naturally.
Nichinichi ni Kami no shinjitsu hataraki o
Shiritaru mono wa sarani arumai 5-78
There may be no one who knows
the true working of God day to day.
Nani nitemo Kami no juyo to yu mono wa
Mezurashi koto o shite miseru de na 5-79
In whatever matters, it is said of Gods’ free and unlimited workings,
marvelous things will be seen (illness as God’s Guidance is seen).
Dono yona mezurashi koto to yuta tote
Kami no suru koto nasu koto bakari 5-80
Whatever marvels you are told of,
it is only about what God will do or has done.
Imamade wa nani yono koto mo shirenanda
Choto miekaketa hoso michisuji 5-81
Until now, you have known nothing.
But now a narrow path (praying with pure mind) is coming into your sight.
Kono michi o dandan shitoi iku naraba
Nandemo muko ni mieru honmichi 5-82
If you follow this path step by step,
you will surely see the main path ahead.
Koremade ni torite kitaru michisuji wa
Kara mo nihon mo wakari nai node 5-83
Until now, you have come through a path
where there was no distinction between Kara and Nihon.
Konosaki wa nanbo kara ya to yuta tote
Nihon ga makeru tameshi nai zo ya 5-84
Hereafter, however unpleasant kara is said to be,
In no case will Nihon be overcome.
Kono yo no moto hajimari no ne o horaso
Chikara aru nara horikirite miyo 5-85
I shall let you dig up the root of this world’s becoming origin (Purifying our minds like the original pure mind at the beginning of mankind).
If you have the strength, do your best to dig it up (digging is the process of removing greed, arrogance, self love, miserliness and covetousness. This will bring upon a discovery of a pure mind).
Kono ne o horikiri saika shitaru nara
Dono yona mono mo kanau mono nashi 5-86
If only you have dug up this root (original mind) completely,
no one will be your match, whoever one may be (purify the mind).
Shikato kike kuchi de yutemo omotemo
Doko de yutemo omotaru tote 5-87
Listen carefully, whatever one may say or think,
or wherever one may say or think,
Sono mamani kayashi to yu wa kono koto ya
Kami ga shirizoku mina shochi seyo 5-88
I shall give a return just as one deserves.
God will respond . Everyone must ponder.
Summary Chapter 5
There has been stories of people regressing to cows and animals if they are evil (karma), but God will now begin to show you your future in this life time. Ponder over any illness.
Every mind is different from one another. God will begin to distinguish our minds, and distinguish it between good and evil. We must ponder over any illness.
Dust in our minds is what causes illness. We must remove greed, arrogance, covetousness, miserliness, and self love from our minds.
There is no illness that cannot be cured. One must remove evil from the mind.
God’s blessings originate from the mind that has true sincerity (pure mind).
God will prepare the early followers by guiding them with illness. They will come to the residence to inquire about their illness. God’s teachings will be given, and they will be healed as they purify their minds. God is preparing them to perform the prayer (Joyous Service).
Magical rites that were effective before will not work anymore, even though it was God that had made them effective. From now on it is the mind that has true sincerity that will bring upon God’s blessings
Digging refers to the process of removing evil (greed, arrogance, self love, covetousness, and miserliness)from the mind. When this occurs, one will find a pure mind or the original pure mind.
Narrow path is when we commit to spreading the truth and praying with a pure (sincere) mind
Pray will true sincerity. Our prayers(Joyous Service) will reach people over a thousand leagues away. God will bring people (nihon) to us to save. God wants us to share our joy with others.
God uses the example of a tree in describing the difference between nihon and Kara. He says that nihon is like the roots of a tree, and kara is like the branches of the same tree. He tells us that the branches can be easily broken, while the roots continue to grow because it is closer to the origin of the tree. God tells us we must know the origin, more specifically the original pure mind.
When God begins to work, the people of nihon will never lose to the people of kara
God says to uncover the original mind which is pure without greed, arrogance, covetousness, miserliness, and self love. When this happens, one will become spirited;
God will also be spirited when all mankind is purified.
