The teachings in the Ofudesaki are simple. God tells us when we are “Good”, we are saved. Only joy and health will appear in our lives. Let me explain. Usually it is our thoughts that we act upon, especially negative thoughts in our minds. God tells us these thoughts or dusts are regret, covetousness, self-love, greed, and arrogance. When we act upon these thoughts, we create our own negative fates of suffering. God tells us to sweep these dusts away, and only joy and health will appear from our own soul. This is the message God wants us to spread to the world. This is the purpose of our religion. It is to spread this important truth. How do we spread the message to the world?
God has given two simple prayers to help us spread the teachings to others. First we must spread the truth of how to be saved. Then we must perform a simple prayer called the Youki-tsutome asking God to help sweep the negative thoughts of the people we have spread the teachings to. God then places illness as guidance to help them purify their minds. If they understand God’s guidance, they come to our places to be healed by the second special prayer called the Osazuke. They are healed, and given further instructions to purify their minds. This is how God’s teachings are spread to the world.
When our religion was began, the Honseki (carpenter) asked Oyasama about constructing a place for prayer. To his surprise Oyasama requested only a small place for Service. Our religion should be simple. It does not require large cathedrals, and places of worship. We have the Kanrodai (Central Pillar) that we all pray toward. We do not require ceremonies, food offering, donations and rituals to please God. God only wants us to have joy. But unfortunately our religion now is like other religions. What must we do? We must understamd the simple instructions in the Ofudesaki!
おふでさきの教えはとてもシンプルです。神様は、私たちが「善い」状態であれば、たすけられると教えてくださっています。そうなれば、私たちの人生には喜びと健康だけが現れます。少し説明します。
私たちはたいてい、自分の思ったこと、特に心の中に浮かぶ否定的な思いに基づいて行動します。神様は、こうした思いを「ほこり」として、後悔、欲深さ、自己愛、貪欲、傲慢であると教えられました。これらの思いに基づいて行動すると、私たちは自分自身で苦しみの因縁をつくってしまいます。神様は、これらのほこりを掃き払うようにと教えておられ、そうすれば自分の魂から喜びと健康だけが現れるのだと仰っています。これこそが、神様が私たちに世界へ広めてほしいと願っておられるメッセージです。これが私たちの宗教の目的であり、この大切な真理を伝えることなのです。
では、どのようにしてこの教えを世界に広めるのでしょうか。
神様は、教えを人々に伝えるための二つのシンプルな祈りをお与えくださいました。まず、どのようにすればたすけられるのかという真実を伝えます。次に、「陽気づとめ」というシンプルな祈りをつとめ、教えを伝えた人々の心の中の否定的な思いを掃き払ってくださるよう神様にお願いするのです。すると神様は、人々の心を清めるための導きとして病をお与えになります。その導きを理解した人々は、私たちのところへ来て、「おさづけ」という二つ目の特別な祈りによってたすけられます。そして、たすけられると同時に、心を清めるためのさらなる教えを授かります。これが、神様の教えが世界に広まっていく道筋なのです。
私たちの宗教が始まった頃、本席（大工）は教祖に、祈りの場を建てることについてお尋ねしました。ところが意外にも、教祖はごく小さなつとめ場所だけをお望みになりました。私たちの宗教は、本来とてもシンプルなものなのです。大きな大聖堂や立派な礼拝施設は必要ありません。私たちには、皆がkokoro (mind)を向けて祈る「かんろだい」があります。神様を喜ばせるための儀式や供物、寄付、複雑な儀礼も必要ありません。神様がただ一つ望んでおられるのは、私たちが陽気に暮らすことです。
しかし残念ながら、今の私たちの宗教は他の宗教と同じようになってしまっています。では、私たちは何をすべきでしょうか。それは、おふでさきに示されたシンプルな教えを、もう一度しっかりと理解することなのです。
