It is interesting that the word for word translation of these three verses do not match Tenrikyo Church Headquarter’s English translation. Here is the translation by Church Headquarters.
Hereafter, bodily disorders will appear here and there.
Know that it is the care being given by Tsukihi. 8-81
When you come, compare your disorder with this place.
If the condition is the same, quickly begin sweeping (with a broom). 8-82
Walk over where you have swept,
and you will come to a standstill. There the Kanrodai…. 8-83
The word for word translation, God tells the early followers to sweep their minds, while the church headquarters translation tell them to sweep the residence with a broom.
Which translation is more accurate. One is an interpretation while the other is word for word translation.
To summarize, God placed illness as guidance to the early followers. God tells them to compare their illness with each other. If the same disorder, God tells them to purify their minds. Then when purified, God asks them to walk the Residence. Where they all stop, is where they should place the Central Pillar. What is the significance of this? The Central Pillar represents the site of human creation. This location is where the pure mind from heaven was placed into the first couple. This is also the location that God descended from heaven to. In summary it is the pure mind that God wants everyone to attain, like the pure mind that was placed into the first couple. When the mind is pure, only heath and happiness will appear from one’s own soul. The Central pillar represents all of this and more! It is the location where our prayer Youki-tsutome is answered by God. This is the location we direct our prayer toward.
