OFUDESAKI 10-21

Interpretation:
This may be a controversial translation. Ichi is translated usually as one (-) in the Ofudesaki, but this verse including one other uses the hiragana symbols for ichi. This verse, I believe is telling us what location to pray toward. We should pray toward the location of the Central Pillar.

Genesis

In the beginning there was God. God said let there be joy. So from the muddy ocean of the ancient world, God selected a fish and a serpent as the first parents of human beings. From the muddy ocean, God selected the good qualities of the other sea creatures, and placed them in the first parents. From heaven, God’s pure mind was placed in each of the first parents. This was the beginning of human beings, a process that took million of years to create. God’s intention was to create a perfect body, combined with a pure mind that would only bring upon joy to the world. But unfortunately dusts or evil thoughts have contaminated our minds, which is incompatible with a healthy body. This is why there is illness or suffering in the world. How do we live the joyous life, which God envisioned in the beginning? The instructions are in the Ofudesaki, and reinforced in the Mikagura-uta.  I will leave you with the 2nd part of the Joyous Service, which most people in Tenrikyo are familiar with:

Just a word to you, what God is saying, listen please.

False things, spoken not.

These workings, earth and heaven representing,

Wife/husband created and brought forth.

This is the world’s beginning.

OFUDESAKI 10-15

The Original mind is the most important concept of the teaching. This mind represents the Original pure mind of God that was given to the first parents of human beings. This Original mind represents heaven, as told in the 2nd part of the Joyous Service. “These workings, earth and heaven representing, wife/husband created and brought forth.” Earth is represented by some of the existing sea creatures in the muddy ancient ocean that was selected by God. God wants us to return the mind to the mind that was given to the first parents. This is a mind without regret, covetousness, self-love, greed, and arrogance. This mind will only bring upon joy by our hearts.

Most people believe in God, but there is not too many people who know the origin. Why is the Origin so important to understand? By understanding the Origin, we can understand what the purpose of life is.

OFUDESAKI 10-13

Interpretation:
God will go out to guide people, so they can eventually live the Joyous life. God was telling the early followers that this is the first time God will begin to help people understand why people suffer or have joy.
