We are hurting God
What kind of world is it when in the past millions of people have been killed in wars? We are killing people we do not personally know. In the Ofudesaki, God tells us that our bodies are not ours, but loaned from God. By killing and hurting people, we are destroying God’s possessions. God also tells us that it is our own souls that monitors our behavior for our actions on our thoughts. It is the soul that collects or demerits from acting on our negative thoughts, stores them, and eventually manifest these fates as suffering and illness when the right opportunity arises. This is why suffering occurs in the world. We reap what we have sowed. If everyone understood these teachings, there will be health and happiness in the world. This is why God tells us we must understand our own souls.

Summary of the Ofudesaki
Summary of the Ofudesaki
God wants everyone to understand one’s own soul. Without understanding the soul, one will not be able to understand why suffering or joy appears in this world.
What is the soul (mune)? Most religions believe in the soul or spirit. When our physical bodies stop functioning, our souls leave our bodies and ascend to heaven, and eventually it returns back to earth to continue our journey. What function does it serve? It appears to save our essence (core) of who we are, and take it to our next destination. This is why we exist for eternity. But what other functions does the soul have?
The Ofudesaki tells us that it is our own soul while present in our borrowed bodies, that collects our demerits from acting upon our negative thoughts, stores them, and eventually releases the demerit (negative energy) as suffering back to us when the right opportunity arises. The right opportunity to manifest the fate may not appear until our next lives. We eventually reap what we have sowed because of our own soul. The soul monitors our behavior, and justice is given out.
You may wonder, if death gives us a new slate to start over again. Is a baby innocent like many people think they are? When our physical bodies die, the soul collects our negative fates with their associated negative thoughts, and takes them to our next destination. Our memories are erased, but our fates, and their associated thoughts go on to the next destination. Death does not give us a fresh start. This is why suffering or joy appears in the world, and why we all have different thought patterns.
Now that we know why there is suffering and joy in the world, what can we do when negative fate appears in our lives? God tells us when suffering occurs, to ponder our own minds for the negative thoughts that are attached to the suffering. The obstacles or sufferings that appear are only messengers of your negative fates. Do not blame others or God, and act on your negative thoughts when suffering appears. This non- action is how one removes these negative thoughts from the mind. For some it will be easy to remove their negative thoughts, but for others because of the amount of negative thoughts they have collected, it may take more time to remove their negative thoughts. When their minds are pure of negative thoughts, they can lessen their attached fates that are appearing, or eliminate them and future negative fates totally. Only positive fates will come from their souls!
What are the negative thoughts that God wants us to remove? God tells us they are the thoughts of disappointment, covetousness, self-love, greed, and arrogance. These are the thoughts we must ponder, when obstacles or suffering appear in our lives, and not act upon them. When our minds are pure, only health and happiness will come from our souls. One can try to remove these thoughts by oneself, but it will be difficult to do without understanding the soul. This is why God wants us to understand one’s own soul.
What happens next? For some, the attainment of health and happiness will be the goal. But for many, they would like to see others saved. This is where God comes into play.
What God wants us to do.To these people (missionaries), God tells them to spread the truth of the pure mind, soul, and God’s guidance that may appear. To these people we have spread the teachings, some will be receptive to the teachings and understand the soul and pure mind. God calls these people nihon. But for others they will not be able to understand the teachings because they refuse to, or are incapable at this time. God calls these people kara. God know how difficult it is for people to understand new concepts and teachings. This is why God helps us convince these people we have spread the teachings to, by giving them guidance.
God had given us a special prayer called the Youki-tsutome (timber Service). With this special prayer, we are asking God to convince these people we have spread the teachings about the soul, and the pure mind.
What will God do to these people we have spread God’s teachings when God accepts our prayer with a pure mind? God will place blessings of guidance to the people we have spread the truth of the soul and pure mind. God shows them their negative thoughts in their minds by the guidance given. By these illnesses, God is showing them their future, if they act on their existing negative thoughts. This is what their own souls do if they act upon their negative thoughts. It is their own souls that monitors what they have done, and metes out joy or suffering. God’s guidance is to help people understand what their souls do. Those who understand the soul and pure mind will understand the illness given as guidance that appears, and come to our places of worship to be healed of their illness, and further given more information of the teachings. They are called youki or timber. God will continue to guide them. When their minds are pure, then they will spread the teachings to others, and perform the Youki- tsutome to save others. This is how the teachings are spread to the world.

What We Sow, We Reap
My native language is English, with some familarity with Japanese. I use a translator on the internet, so sometimes the information I receive or send out is not correct. There are some words that are difficult to translate. Unfortunately some of these words are important in understanding the Ofudesaki. One word is mune. People translate it as chest, breast, lung, stomach mind, heart, spirit, and soul. Tenrikyo Headquarter’s translates mune as God’s heart in the first verse of the Ofudesaki. The other word is kokoro, which is also translated as mind, heart, and spirit. I find both of these words mune and kokoro intermingles in many of the posts and articles, which causes confusion in understanding.
God tells us throughout the Ofudesaki that we do not understand the mune. What is the mune? God tells us to ponder what comes from our mune. God tells us to become single minded (pure mind) or Kami-ichijo with what comes from our mune. What comes from our mune? It is our fates that come from the mune. The mune is our soul. We reap what we have sowed because of our souls. In the Ofudesaki if you place soul where mune is written, God’s message will become more clear.
The message of the soul is what we must understand, and spread to the world. If the world knew that it is their own soul that monitors our behaviors, do you think that the evil actions of human beings will occur? We can understand why suffering and joy occur in the world. In this world, we have people hurting and killing each other, thinking there are no consequences. This is why we must understand the first verse of the Ofudesaki.
For the people that are suffering, In the Ofudesaki God tells us we do not have to suffer. When negative fate appears from our souls, God tells us how to remove it. By removing our negative thoughts, God tells us we can eliminate suffering. This pure mind is what God wants us to understand and attain.
In the Ofudesaki, God reminds us to understand the Origin of human beings. Why does God want us to understand the Origin? God wanted to see us live the Joyous life, so God will be spirited. God wanted to create the perfect body to live the Joyous life. From the ancient muddy ocean, this locality (jiba), God selected a fish and sea serpent as the first couple. God selected and added the good qualities of other sea creature into the first couple to create the perfect body to live the Joyous life. Then from heaven, God added God’s pure mind (shinjitsu) to the first couple. Human beings with a perfect body and pure mind should live the Joyous life. Only positive fates should appear from their souls. But unfortunately negative thoughts have infected the mind. These thoughts are not compatible with the perfect body. This is why there is suffering in the world. Therefore God wants everyone to understand the Origin. It is to make them aware of the pure mind that was given to the first couple, that will bring only health and happiness to our bodies.
The last topic is God’s guidance that is written throughout all 17 chapters of the Ofudesaki. Many times just words will not convince people. God wants people to spread the truths of the soul and pure mind, but people may not be convinced. This is where God will help us save others. God has given us the Youki-tsutome-tsutome. With this Service we are asking God to help people to understand the soul, and what it does. God places illness on their bodies dependent on what negative thoughts are in their minds. God is showing them their future if they act on their negative thoughts. This is what their own souls do. When these people understand the guidance given, they will come to our places of worship to be healed and informed further of the soul and pure mind. They will be able to purify their own minds by understanding what comes from their souls. This is how the teachings spread to the world.
Finally, it is my opinion that we do not have to suffer when we decide to spread God’s teachings. It is our own soul that protects us when our minds are pure. With God’s blessings of our special prayer, and the instructions in the Ofudesaki, our journey to spread the teachings should only bring us joy and health.
O mune é a nossa alma.
