Good or Bad Seed?

This is a continuation of my previous blog on planting the seeds.

For a man to have a joyous future, requires one to plant the seed of happiness. What is this seed? This seed is any  effort or thought that helps others. One must have a pure mind like water, and guard against the weeds (greed, arrogance, and self love) which may take over the mind. We must also put sincerity (fertilizer) in. This sincerity comes from knowing that all mankind was created to live a joyous life.  This seed or act germinates into joy in the future.

But what happens if we plant a bad seed? What is a bad seed? A bad seed is any act or thought that hurts others. A bad seed develops from a clouded mind that has been polluted with greed, arrogance, and self love. This seed develops into suffering in the future.

You can imagine one’s life as planting seeds as we go through life, with each seed germinating in the future. It is with this knowledge that a sinner (“bad person”) can have a joyous future, and a good person can suffer in the future. Let me explain further.

As with the law of nature, we can not change it. We can not change the future of what has been planted. A bad seed planted with bring forth suffering, and a good seed with bring forth joy.  No amount of praying will change what is done. Let me further explain using a parable from the New Testament.

Remember the story of the Pharisee and the publican. They both prayed to God, but God accepted the prayer of the publican. The Pharisee prayed to God that he had followed God’s commandments, and given to the church, while the publican acknowledge his sins and asked to be forgiven.  At that moment, the sinner was good. He had planted the seed of joy in the future. But were all his other bad seeds he had planted rooted out because of his repentance?  No, they would all have to germinate as to the laws of cause and effect. But he had a joyous future afterward.

As to the Pharisee, his prayer was not sincere at the moment, causing a bad seed to be planted. But would all his good seeds in this past be rooted out because if this incident. No, like the publican, his seeds  would germinate also in the future. In the case of the Pharisee his good seeds would germinate in joy. Unfortunately the bad seed would germinate afterwards also.

This is the reason we all can be saved. No matter how evil our past, if we plant a good seed now, it will germinate in the future as joy!
