Last night I was listening to a collection of songs by the Beatles when a few of the lyrics caught my attention. Usually I don’t pay attention to the words, and listen only to the music. Does the following lyrics reveal the thinking of the Beatles? They reflect many of the beliefs of the Heaven’s Truth religion (Tenrikyo) of helping others to live the joyous life.
Imagine there’s no heaven.
See it if you try.
No hell below us.
Above us only sky.
Imagine all the people living for the day.
Imagine there’s no country.
It isn’t hard to do.
Nothing to kill or die for
and no religion too.
Imagine all the people
living life in peace.
You may say I’m a dreamer
but I’m not the only one.
I hope that someday you join us
and the world will be one.
Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger.
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
sharing all the world.
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
I hope some day you join us, and the world will live as one
