Why We Suffer

Where is God? You hear stories about someone missing a flight, where the airplane crashes and everyone dies. They are often quoted “God was looking after me”. But what happened to the other 200 passengers that perished on that flight. Was not God looking after them? Maybe God has no control over what happens on a daily basis.

In the Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo), it is the principle of Causality that determines what happens every day. Good thoughts and actions bring forth joy, and evil thoughts and behavior brings upon suffering. This principle is Heaven’s truth. The effect of our actions and thoughts may not unfold until our next lives. This explains why some suffer and others have joy in their lives. This is why evil appears to thrive, and the good sometimes perish. By some incomprehensible system to mankind, God has created a complex system where every soul becomes liable for his or her behavior or thought. The effect of each action manifolds itself at selected times, possible awaiting individuals of similar fate. With seven billion people on earth, imagine the infinite combinations of occurrences that are possible over time and space brought forth by our thoughts and behaviors.

A very nice circular hole-proof argument but who or what decides wether our actions are good or bad.
    What is the moral yardstick?
My act maybe good for me and my family but bad for others.
What about acts of nature that we see in wild abundance. Fires , floods, volcanoes.

Thank you for your comments. In the Book of Prophecy (Fudesaki) is the following:

This path are miserliness, covetousness, self love,
greed, and arrogance. These are the dusts. 3-96

These are the evils that we should avoid, and sweep from our minds. As for the natural disasters, I believe that the negative energies produced by these dusts (evils) from each individual is eventual released into the environment, and produces these energized natural disasters.

Thankyou for your reply. I agree with the dusts as you call them, but they are much more easily named than eliminated.
I cannot agree about natural disasters for I believe nature to be amoral.
