Was thinking out loud about what is the purpose of religion. Is it to console people when suffering or obstacles occurs in our lives? This is what I believe most of the religions that exist today do. They guarantee a better after life if you have faith in what they say. This may or not be true since we can only imagine what the after life will be.
Let me tell you what insight I have gained from reading our sacred book the Ofudesaki. The Ofudesaki tells us why we suffer or have joy in our lives. It gives us the ingredients to purify our minds of evil thoughts, so that we can be spirited each day of our lives. It also teaches us how to convey this truth to the world. This is what I believe a true religion should accomplish; it should give us the ingredients to live joyfully in this world; and it should show us how to spread this joy to others.
God tells us that we must all endure a “Broad path” to purify our minds of evil thoughts. These evil thoughts are not heinous as most of us would think the word evil would convey. They are thoughts that most of us have in our minds. These evil thoughts are greed, arrogance, self-love, miserliness, and covetousness. God tells us that it is our own souls (hearts) that deliver sufferings or obstacles in our lives to help us remove these evil thoughts. For more information on what the soul is and what it does, please visit heaventruth.com. When we suffer or have obstacles placed in front of us, God tells us not to act upon our evil thoughts. When we do not act upon our evil thoughts, these evil thoughts gradually disappear. Some of us will have to go through more suffering as we may have more evil thoughts to remove; but if we continue to persist on not acting on our evil thoughts, we will eventually attain a pure mind. When we attain this pure mind, we will become spirited; and our souls will bring upon only joy. This is again the broad path that God tells us to go through to attain joy.
For those who have a pure mind and want to spread this truth of how to attain joy, God tells us to go through the “Narrow path”. God tells us that there will be no danger on this path. God tells us to spread the truth of the soul/heart, and tell people that God will begin to work to help people understand the soul. This propagation of God’s truth is called hinokishin.
The narrow path also includes a special prayer (Joyous Service) that God guarantees new members to our churches and fellowships if the prayer is performed with a pure mind contingent upon the first requirement of hinokishin taking place.
God has given us the ingredients to world salvation by giving us the Ofudesaki, a simple compilation of verses that are easy to understand. This is what I believe religion should be about.
