It is the heart (soul) we must understand to find out why we suffer or have joy in our lives. The following is from the Ofudesaki, the most sacred scripture in the world

Everyone, in everything, each of your hearts, you are dependent on.

God is discerning it.  Think about it .  6-97

Interpretation:

It is our own hearts (soul) that determines if we have joy or suffer. God is looking at it to determine if one needs help to understand the heart.
