Good afternoon! Thank you for your wonderful blog! I am new to Tenrikyo, and your blog has helped me understand Ofudesaki much better.
I have a question that I was wondering if you could answer.
Why do innocent animals suffer?
My friend’s cat, just one 1 year old, recently became very sick, and she was paralyzed and wailing, and it was heartbreaking to see her little life cut so short. She had to be euthanized. It was awful to see her suffering. I prayed for her, but she still suffered. Do animals have bad causalities from previous lives? Can they be saved?
Please let me know if you can help with an answer for me, as I am heartbroken and looking for hope.
Thank you! Michelle

Do animals have souls? Once Oyasama commented while eating a fish, she stated how good it was, and hoped that the fish would come back more evolved in the next life. As for animals, I believe the suffering may be the result of the mind of the owner. I am not saying that your friend is evil, but all of us have dusts or evil thoughts we must remove from our minds. These dusts when obstacles appear in our lives, are disappointment, desire, self-love, greed, and arrogance. Hope my explanation helps,
