Most accurate translation

Just to remind people how accurate my English  translation of the Ofudesaki is. The Ofudesaki is written in waka sytle poetry of syllables.  It is a 5-7-5, and 7-7 for each verse, consisting of a total of  five commas, exclamation marks, or periods separating each group of syllables in the English translation. The following is today’s verse.

        5                          7                           5
(korekara wa) (kono you hajimete) (nai tsutome

           7                            7

(dandan oshie) (te o tsukeru nari)        4-90

From now on, these workings beginning, nonexistent Service,

little by little teach, the hands to assume resulting in.     4-90

The following is Tenrikyo church headquarter’s translation:

From now on, step by step, I shall teach you the Service unknown

since the world began and train you in its hand movements.

Which one is more accurate?  Remember one must translate each verse accurately first before one can interpret to his or her view.  The Church is not doing this in their translation. They are interpreting the verses first. What do you think?

『おふでさき』の英訳がいかに正確かを改めてお伝えします。『おふでさき』は和歌形式の音節で書かれています。各句は5・7・5と7・7の音節で構成され、英訳では各音節群を区切る句読点(コンマ、感嘆符、ピリオド)が計5箇所あります。以下が本日の句です。

        5                          7                           5
(korekara wa) (kono you hajimete) (nai tsutome

           7                            7

(dandan oshie) (te o tsukeru nari)        4-90

From now on, these workings beginning, nonexistent Service,

little by little teach, the hands to assume resulting in.     4-90

以下は天理教教会本部の翻訳です:

From now on, step by step, I shall teach you the Service unknown

since the world began and train you in its hand movements.

God’s blessings

(korekara wa) (kono you hajimete) (nai tsutome)
(dandan oshie) (te o tsukeru nari) 4-90

From now on, these workings beginning, nonexistent Service,
little by little teach, the hands to assume resulting in.

(kono kokoro) (shin kara wakari) (tsuita nara)
(kono you hajimari) (te o tsukeru nari) 5-29

This mind, from the pure mind understanding, attained if so,
these workings beginning, the hands to assume resulting in (God’s guidance).

(hayabaya to) (narimono nari to) (dashikake yo)
(tsutome bakari o) (seete iru kara) 15-90

Quickly, the harvest (of new members) resulting in, show!
The Service only, because hastening to exist

要するに、神が私たちに日々行うことを望まれるのは、礼拝の場に新たな信徒をもたらす「Youki-tsutome」である。改めて、魂と清らかなkokoro (mind)の真理を他者に伝え、この重要な祈りを捧げねばならない。これこそが世界を救う道である。残念ながら、現在の教会の指導者たちはこの見解を共有していない。

English

The word yo and you are often interchanged in the Ofudesaki, often making God’s teachings unclear to the reader. The word yo is translated as world, and the words you or juuyou is translated as blessings, or God’s workings of guidance. When reading the Ofudesaki look at how these words are used.

From the Ofudesaki, from the following verses it appears that our Service(Youki-tsutome) brings upon God’s blessings of guidance (you or juuyou) to help people understand the soul to purify their minds. It is not a prayer to help us sweep our minds like our church leaders tell us. We do not know what we are praying for. The Youki-tsutome is a prayer to save others. This may be the reason the truths in the Ofudesaki are not spreading to the world. The following are verses that support the theory of the Youki-tsutome initiating God’s guidance to save the world.

(kono tsutome) (kore ga kono you no) (hajimari ya)
Kore sai kanota koto de aru nara. 15-29

This Service (Youki-tsutome), this is these working’s, beginning.
This on occasion realized, by the occurrence (guidance) to exist if so.

(korekara wa) (kono you hajimete) (nai tsutome)
(dandan oshie) (te o tsukeru nari) 4-90

From now on, these workings beginning, nonexistent Service,
little by little teach, the hands to assume resulting in.

(kono kokoro) (shin kara wakari) (tsuita nara)
(kono you hajimari) (te o tsukeru nari) 5-29

This mind, from the pure mind understanding, attained if so,
these workings beginning, the hands to assume resulting in (God’s guidance).

(hayabaya to) (narimono nari to) (dashikake yo)
(tsutome bakari o) (seete iru kara) 15-90

Quickly, the harvest (of new members) resulting in, show!
The Service only, because hastening to exist

In summary, it is the Youki-tsutome that God wants us to perform daily, as it will bring new members to our place of worship. Again we must share God’s truth of the soul, and pure mind to others, then perform this important prayer. This is how we save the world. unfortunately current leaders of the church do not share these views.

We Do Not know our prayer

天理教の中でも、多くの人は私たちの祈りの目的を知りません。それは『おふでさき』の教えを世界に広めることです。私たちは神様に、魂の教えと清らかなkokoro (mind)の教えを広める助けを願っているのです。このお祈りは、教祖が教えを理解させるために創られた「よろずよ」や十二の歌ではありません。毎日行う「ようきつとめ」であり、神様は、これらの人々が魂を確信しkokoro (mind) を清めるよう導くため、病という導きを与えられるのです。

Most people even in Tenrikyo does not know what the purpose of our prayer is. It is to spread the teachings in the Ofudesaki to the world. We are asking God to help us spread the teachings of the soul and the pure mind. This prayer is not the Yorozuyo and 12 songs that Oyasama created to help us understand the teachings. It is the Youki-tsutome that we perform daily, asking God to help the people we have spread the teachings to. God places illness as guidance to help these people be convinced of the soul to purify the mind.
