Blind Faith

Dead people coming back to life (Zombies), mad scientist creating life from only one sex, and magicians walking on water. Do all these feats sound familiar? They are similar to the feats recorded in the holy books that many of us have faith in. Faith is good, but blind faith may lead one on the wrong path. The Jonestown Massacre, and the Branch Davidians are instances where blind faith led the death of innocent people.  In the Tip of the Writing Brush (Ofudesaki) are the following:

This is a world constructed on reason.

So I shall press upon you everything with the reason in verse. 1-21

What we do see in the world is suffering and joy. We also see evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) and good.  Can there be a relationship between these factors? Consider Causality as the “Truth of Heaven”.  Consider Heaven’s Truth Church (Tenrikyo).

For every action, there is a reaction

Newton’s third law says that for every action there is a reaction. Could this also pertain to our behaviors? Could each thought generate a response? Could our future depend on our thoughts and behavior of today?

In the Osashizu is the following:

Although merit is not visible today, the accounting is as dependable as if it were done on paper. Whatever is surplus, I return. Whatever is short, I will collect. The balance in each account is very clear. January  13, 1892

Some will say that the soul (innermost heart) is where God keeps account of our actions and thoughts. From the soul, these actions and thoughts generate into future actions that we experience. Like the DNA that determines our physical characteristics, these recorded thoughts in the soul generate into actions that affect us in the future.

We are accountable for what happens to us whether it is good or bad. Have good thoughts in order to have joy in the future. Causality may be the truth that may change the world.

We do not understand

Throughout the history of mankind, there are verses supposedly from God stating that we do not understand. Even Jesus, told his disciples that they did not understand when they could not cure someone who was ill. In the Tip of the Writing Brush (Ofudesaki), throughout the book, God is telling us that we do not understand. What is it that we do not understand?

For most part, God is said to be on the sidelines. Burglaries, unscrupulous acts, and crimes against humanity continue to occur throughout the world. Sufferings also continue throughout the world. On the other hand, altruistic acts, charity, and benevolence are prevalent in the world. Joy also continues throughout the world. Is there a relationship between our behavior now and what happens to us in on earth and in heaven?

What is this truth that one must understand. It is the truth of causality. Causality states that good thoughts and behavior brings forth joy, and evil thoughts and behavior brings forth sufferings. These are the two main paths of human beings. We have control of our own destiny.  The world suffers because our manifested evils are reflected back to us. God does not punish us for our sins like many television evangelist would like us to believe. We inflict suffering on ourselves. God for the most part is on the sideline, hoping his children will learn the truth of causality.

In our religion, we believe in a special prayer.  This special prayer was created when opposition from another religion threatened and caused destruction to one of our churches. Instead of a prayer to cause harm or destruction to the perpetrators, a prayer to help them was created. This joyous service prayer is performed daily asking God to sweep evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) from the hearts of mankind. It is this prayer that will help mankind understand causality.  With the understanding of causality, it will be easier for them to remove the evils from their minds.  When this happen, the path of joy will become the only path.

Who is Santa Claus

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Long time ago, children of all ages would anticipate Christmas Eve in hope that Santa would bring them presents. Even as we grew older, we still wanted to believe in this jolly old figure.  But ask any child now if they believe in Santa, and they would roll their eyes as if you were out of your mind. Santa Claus does not exist.

Who is this Santa Claus?  In one song, Santa Claus is said to determine if you have been good or bad and warns us not to cry or complain. Santa brings toys and joy to good children, and brings coal to the bad. How does one man have the capacity to determine who is good and who is bad? How does he deliver his goods to everyone in the world? Who is Santa?

Can Santa be God? God is said to determine who is good and who is bad, and rewards each, as they deserve. Does this sound like what Santa Claus does? Maybe we should not give up in our belief in Santa Claus so early. Let our children continue to believe in this Jolly old man who brings joy and teaches us to be good.

We are family/revised 2

The ache is in my stomach.  I have so much pain. I have barely enough strength to open my eyes. I see death all around me. I smell the burning of human flesh. I close my eyes and fall into unconsciousness, and see flashes of happy times.

As I regain consciousness, I see the grimace of a dark tanned obese individual, dressed in a white tunic. I hear his words but his oral semblance of his rotated caramel colored incisors grabs my immediate attention.  I have so much hate and despise for a man I have never met. It would be my pleasure to slash his throat, and see him slowly die.

This man who I detest so much holds a knife to my throat. He wants me to renounce my faith to save my life. I could barely see the periphery around me; but I can see the silhouette a female that appears to be with child. The man tightens his grip on my neck, and motions with his eyes for the ghostly silhouette to leave. I with the last of my breath, shout an obscenity to the figure leaving the room.  I suddenly feel extreme pain. I feel cold. The room goes dark.

I open my eyes, I feel warm and comfortable. My face is juxtaposed to the white warm alabaster breast that nourishes me.  I see a face, which frightens me at first. I see the rotated caramel incisors. He smiles at me, and praises God. I try to remember where I have seen this face, but the memories begin to fade. The smile now brings a soothing comfort.  I feel good to be with my family.

note: we may all be brothers and sisters if we are to believe in reincarnation. Therefore we must learn to live harmoniously with each other.

Buds Sprout from Knots

In the Osashizu is the following:

Buds sprout from knots. May 12, 1889

Knots are sufferings or inconveniences in our lives.  Buds are joy and happiness.  If one does not understand the law of causality, one could question how joy can emanate from sorrow?

Understanding causality gives us the information to turn our inconveniences into joy. What we do today determines what will happen in the future.  We can always respond in a negative way to any inconvenience that may occur, which will continue to result in sufferings in the future; or we can respond positively and plants seeds for a joyous future. Causality gives us an opportunity to change our future. We always have control of our future.

Money does not buy happiness

Sometimes we wish we had more money to make our lives happier. But money cannot buy happiness. In the Osashizu is the following:

You might not understand easily if I speak of causality. Listen and understand the truth well. If things happen the way you wish, that is because of causality. If things do not happen the way you wish, that is also because of causality. If you all pass through life with no awareness of causality, with no awareness of causality at all, then there is no knowing what sort of causality will manifest itself. However hard you try to cause something to happen, it might not happen- such is causality. Were it possible for the power of money to make anything happen, it would be as though the one truth did not exist. Causality means that the power of money cannot cause things to happen. August 26, 1890

Money or power cannot buy us happiness.
