Human Greed

Do you ever think that the regular light bulb can last longer? Do companies that manufacture it want it to last longer? How about the batteries that runs the toys? How about tires that last the life time of our automobiles?

Does the medical field want the cure to cancer, the cure to the flu, or the common cold? Does the medical community want this? What would happen to the mass bureaucracy that is dependent on the treatment of disease if there was a cure for all diseases? What would happen to the pharmacy companies that spend billions of dollars promoting their drugs?

Recently, there was an article that scientist had found a cure for dental caries. I am not sure that dentists have welcomed this news. The dental and medical fields have long known what causes dental and medical diseases; but how much money is spent on educating the public on prevention instead of intervention. When is the last time you heard a community clinic going out of business because they had succeeded in eradicating disease? They continue to grow in numbers by proving that there is more need in the community.  Is prevention of disease their top priority?  Is it in their best financial interest to prevent or to treat disease?

In the Tip of the Writing Brush, it is said that disease and illness will disappear when all mankind becomes purified of arrogance and greed. It is not the lack of scientific discoveries and inventions that is preventing the eradication of human misery, but it is the reluctance to eliminate human greed that is delaying the joyous world.
