Why do we suffer or have joy?

How do we have joy in this life? Even Sister Teresa at the end of her life had doubt about God, especially why a loving God will cause suffering to so many. What keeps us from finding joy in life that many religions promise us? Why do apparent innocent people suffer, while the apparent evil people prosper? Is there no justice on this earth?

Enter religion to explain these dilemmas. Our earthly presence is only temporary; heaven waits for those who accept God. God tests our faith by placing suffering upon us. The evil (nonbelievers) may prosper on earth, but will enter hell for eternity. These explanations make us feel good. If we continue to reinforce these beliefs upon ourselves, we can easily come to believe that they are God’s words. Some even force their religions upon others. But are they spreading God’s message?

But religion does not explain why there is suffering and joy on earth. Enter a religion called Tenrikyo (Heaven’s Truth Church). Causality and reincarnation explains why we suffer or have joy. We are all God’s children, and will all be saved. There is no one who is essentially evil; it is only because dusts of arrogance, self-love, and greed have attached to his or her mind. God will help us remove these evils from our minds, and return our hearts to its purity. We reap what we sow. Our evil actions and thoughts of today will bring upon suffering in the future. Our good thoughts and action will bring upon joy in the future. Causality gives us the process to purify our minds; but it also continues our sufferings if we react negatively to our sufferings and obstacles. This path of purifying our minds is a difficult path, and may take many lifetimes to purify our minds. God has given us a special prayer to help people understand the concept of causality.  The understanding of causality will change the world.
