Tenrikyo /Heaven’s Truth and Energy

The mind is the source of what appears in the world, and the mind creates our future. How does our mind affect what happens in the world? Energy supplies the mind to create our thoughts, which are also made of energy. The different types of energies also differentiate our thoughts. Positive energy, which I believe, radiates from the pure soul or the innermost heart brings upon stability, while negative energies created by the mind brings upon instability.

Our minds create thoughts every day. This sometimes creates enormous amount of negative energy or instability in our bodies. Where does this harmful energy go? In the Book of Prophecy, God tells us that the heart (soul) and the mouth are our sand and filter. What does this mean? The pure positive soul captures these negative energies, like the sand that attracts the waste in purifying our sewage. The mouth refers to our ability to act on our negative thoughts or resist them. What does the soul do with the surrounding negative energies that it has attracted from the mind?

The negative energy can be released inside the body, causing mutation to the cells resulting in cancer. It can also cause disease and infections. The negative energy attached to the soul can also be released outside of the individual, causing sufferings or misfortune back to the individual.

In the Book of Prophecy, God also tells us that our bodies are not ours, but they are loaned to us. If this is true, our bodies are part of God and God has an enormous amount of negative energy that is created by our minds. God calls this energy his anger or regret. How does God release his regret or anger? Where does this energy transfer? God sometimes releases this energy into the environment, causing natural disasters like earthquakes, lightening and great winds.

Now we know how our bodies dispose of our negative energies or God’s regret and anger. It appears that this process brings upon suffering to us. How do we bring upon joy to ourselves? Let us now explain the mouth as the filter. Evil thoughts, which create negative energy, are greed, arrogance, and self-love. We have the ability to act or resist these thoughts. God tells us to calm our minds when we are faced with temptation or barriers and not act upon our evil thoughts. When this happens, gradually less evil thoughts emerge from our mind. This results in the elimination of negative energy. The soul (positive energy) is detached from the negative energies and now only brings upon stability and joy to the individual.

God’s Blessings

Sometimes being correct or right may not be enough. For example, I was having a good day when one of my co-workers who was not having a good day, misunderstood some of my comments concerning a matter at work. I was dumbfounded by her claim that I had hurt her esteem. I was thinking to myself, how dare she ruin my great day I was having. Even though I was correct as confirmed by co-workers later, I had thoughts of arrogance. My choice was to calm my mind to suppress my arrogance, or to take action and follow through on what my arrogant thoughts were telling me to do. Unfortunately I succumbed to my thoughts, and confronted her publicly. As you can expect, taking action upon these evil thoughts brings upon more arrogant thoughts from both parties, resulting in exchanges of angry words.

The Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo) teaches us that the path to a pure mind is a difficult path. It is difficult because although we strive to purify our minds of greed, arrogance and self-love, we are confronted by setbacks and temptations that encourage our minds to follow these evil thoughts. But God tells us that if we calm our minds, and take no actions upon the evil thoughts, these thoughts will gradually be eliminated from our minds. It may appear to be an annoyance or suffering when barriers appear, like the experience with the co-worker; but it may actually be God’s blessing in trying to help us eliminate these evils from our minds. For some people, due to the amount of evil in their minds, they may need many blessing to purify their minds. In my instance, I sometimes take a backward movement ignoring God’s blessing and take action on my arrogant thoughts. I use to apologize to God when I failed his blessings; but God tells us that he does not want our apologies. He wants us to show our commitment when God provides us with future blessings. I am so grateful to God that he continues to bless me as he blesses you, encouraging us to purify our minds.

Understanding God

This Sunday brings upon Easter, a religious day celebrated by Christians. Easter, like many religious celebrations of all faiths, have special meaning to its congregation. The meaning or message of the events are often misunderstood or not comprehended. Each person hears the same message or text, but may take home a different meaning dependent on what thoughts are influencing their minds.

In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), God tells us that we do not understand because our minds are not pure. God tells us that evil (greed, arrogance, miserliness, covetousness, and self love) thoughts make it difficult to understand God’s messages. He tells us to eliminate these evils from our minds to be able to understand God. For those who are inflicted by bouts of depression, we can become spirited and happy by removing these evils.

But how do we begin to clean our minds of these evils, especially when we are confronted by suffering, temptations, and confrontations? God tells us to calm our minds when faced with these difficult situations. How do we calm our minds? God tells us that we must not take action upon these evil thoughts. For example when we are tempted by greed, we must not take action. By not acting upon our evil thoughts, they are gradually eliminated from our minds. The purification of our minds is not an easy task, and often involves faith in a loving God to complete the purification.

It is this purification of mind that will bring upon understanding of a loving God, and the understanding that we are all God’s children. For some, it may take a long time to purify their minds because of the amount of evil in their minds. But God promises that eventually all mankind will be purified of mind. When all mankind is purified of mind, then God will provide us blessings of a “Joyous World”.

Changing Our Minds

I was watching one of the news channels where one commentator was accusing another commentator of being racially insensitive. One was Caucasian and the other African American. The black commentator commented on famous black leaders in combating racism, with the white commentator gave his father as an example in defending civil rights. Ironically both of them because of their color of skin felt victimized because of the actions of their ancestors. The black commentator was noticeably angry at the injustice of blacks in the past, while the white commentator appeared apologetic about the past wrongs of his race. But are we responsible for our ancestor’s sin? We have no connection except our genes that determine our physical form and color. Because of our color or race, should we be punished for the action of our ancestors who lived long time ago? Are all females responsible for Eve’s bite of the forbidden fruit?

It is our thoughts that either connect or disconnect with our ancestors; and it is not race or color that connects us. We have the choice to eliminate the evils that emerge in man’s mind. These evils are greed, arrogance, and self-love. It is these evils that are passed on from one generation to another that hinders mankind from having joy and peace. Unlike race or color that we cannot change, we can change our thoughts from evil to good.

Are we responsible for our ancestors?

I was watching one of the news channels where one commentator was accusing another commentator of being racially insensitive. Of course one was white and the other black. The black commentator commented on famous black leaders in combating racism, with the white commentator gave his father as an example in defending civil rights. Ironically both of them because of their color of skin felt victimized because of what their ancestors had done. The black commentator was noticeably angry at the injustice of blacks in the past, while the white commentator appeared apologetic about the past wrongs of his race. But are we responsible for what our ancestors did? Are we responsible for what thoughts our ancestors had? What makes each of us different from our ancestors of long ago? It’s not the color of our skin. The major difference is how we think. Yet we judge others based on skin color. It is like calling an obese person jolly because of his or her appearance. Our thoughts are what make us evil or good: it is not our physical features.

When we judge others by their physical form, their intelligence, their possessions, and yes their ancestry, it is discrimination and is not justifiable. But because we do not or understand the original purity of all mankind, we cannot understand that it is our thoughts that make us evil or good. Evil thoughts are not present in only one race; it is prevalent and sometimes spread like an infection. World history has many examples. It is the same with good thoughts; it is not the domain of only one race.

Tenrikyo /The State of Our Minds Reveals the World’s Destiny

I am wondering, what conditions are needed to produce innovation, inventions, and discoveries? What qualities did great discoverers like Einstein, Franklin, Plato, Socrates, Salk, Mendel, and Jenner have? There are regions in the world where innovation and discoveries are more prevalent than other areas; what are the factors that make this so? As for time, there were certain periods in history where innovations blossomed; what were the factors?

In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), there is a verse:

This is a world constructed on reason

So I shall press upon you everything with the reason in verse. 1-21

There is another verse,

When you calm your mind step by step and ponder,

It will change into clear water (pure mind). 2-26

I believe that God is telling us to clear our minds in order to understand what the world is revealing. In today’s world, our thoughts are filled with arrogance, greed, and self-love. These thoughts cloud our reasoning abilities, and hides God’s blessings that he provides for us daily. This is why many of us cannot use our innate abilities to discover the intricacies and mysteries of life.

God also tells us when we remove evil thoughts from our minds, we become more spirited and happy, giving us the impetus to find innovations that help others and make life easier. It is this pure mind that God begins to give us his blessings. It is not praise or sacrifice that God wants from us, but it is this pure original mind that he desires. God gives us blessing dependent on our frame of mind.

Even Sister Teresa told others that we need silence, or a place of silence to pray in order to connect with God. I believe she was telling us to calm our minds from the evil thoughts of arrogance, greed, and self-love in order to see the world as it is. When we see the world from a pure mind, we become spirited and are able to see the truth of the world; enabling us to use our abilities to create a better world for all mankind. The state of our minds reveals the destiny of the world.

Tenrikyo /What do we do with evil people?

How do we deal with evil people? What does God do with evil people? These are questions that man has pondered since his creation. In the Heaven’s Truth Church (Tenrikyo), God tells us that there is no one who is evil; it is only because the thoughts of evil have attached to him or her. God also tells us that our bodies are not ours; God lends us our bodies.

If we are to believe in God, we have a dilemma. Killing evil people will not make God happy, since we are taking away God’s possession. How do we eliminate evil thoughts without killing the occupant? But what are evil thoughts? In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), God tells us that these evils are the thoughts of arrogance, greed, miserliness, covetousness, and self love. God tells us that these are dusts that prevent mankind from being spirited. God tells us that it is these dusts that cause suffering in the world; more specifically these sufferings are self-inflicted. God or natural law takes care of people that have evil thoughts.

How do we remove evil thoughts from people? God tells us that we can feel happy or spirited by eliminating these evils from our minds. We must convince people that drugs, possessions, or power does not produce happiness; but it is the removal of evil thoughts that produce true joy. It is this pure mind that connects with God’s mind. It is this mind that brings upon God’s blessings, even when danger may be around the corner. God or natural law takes good care of those who have good thoughts of helping others.

In a world where evil thoughts spread like infections, we must tell people to calm their minds and not take action upon these thoughts. Action brings upon more evil thoughts in our minds that spread from one mind to another like a plague. But when we resist our evil thoughts, they gradually diminish and our minds become pure. When our minds become pure, we become spirited or happy, and have a mind connected with God. The secret to happiness lies within the mind. In the Heaven’s Truth religion, we have a prayer that asks God to help other remove evil from their minds. As God has blessed us with antibiotics to fight infections that were once fatal, God has given us a prayer that will eventually eliminate evil. Evil sweeping, save them please, Universal Saving God.

The Brothers, Cause and Effect

Once upon a time, there were two twin brothers name Cause and Effect. Cause was a mischievous and daring child, while his brother Effect was a gentle and kindhearted child. They were both brought up by caring and compassionate parents; but from the beginning there was no bond between the brothers. Both led different lives, and had different friends. Their lives were nothing exceptional until they both turned into teenagers. Cause started to get into trouble, and his parents were often called into the principal’s office. It was at this time also that Effect began to have health issues. His asthma worsened, and he was diagnosed with diabetes. Even with his health issues, Effect was an exemplary student, and graduated as one of the valedictorian of his high school. Cause, unlike his brother was not driven by academics, and was placed into a vocational school, where he was eventually “kicked out”.

In adulthood, Cause continued his life of daring adventure and crime. He served a few years in state prison, and eventually became wealthy by unscrupulous business transactions that destroyed the lives of unsuspecting vulnerable senior citizens. Cause lived a prosperous and healthy life while his brother Effect suffered from misfortune and illness.

Effect was also a religious person and always attended Sunday services at his church. In spite of his dedication to his church, he continued to suffer from his chronic illnesses. He suffered a tragic automobile accident where his wife and children were all killed. In his hospital suite, Effect angrily shouted to God, “ Why have you made me suffer so much in my life. Have I not praised and pleased you enough?” Not expecting an answer from God, Effect with tears in his eyes, succumbed to the effects of the narcotics, and went to sleep.

Upon opening his eyes, Effect was in a mansion decorated with ornate antique styling. He was surprised he was able to quickly spring from his bed. He looked into the mirror but could not recognize the reflection. It looked like the reflection of a tanned handsome muscular figure unlike his weak lethargic facade. He thought the reflection revealed his brother who he had not seen for decades. He also felt a sudden change in disposition and mood. He actually felt evil, like the thoughts of greed and arrogance manipulating his mind. Unlike his innate positive spirit, he felt depressed for the first time. Effect thought to himself, is this a dream. Is God showing me my reflection of what I have previously been in my past life? Is my brother Cause a reflection of what I have been before?

Suddenly the images disappear, and Effect is able to see obscure images of his hospital ward, and a nurse quietly entering the room. The pain returns as the narcotic effect abates; but the dark effects of evil lessens, and the spirit and joy of Cause’s mind returns. It is always the story of Cause and Effect. In this world, we see the protagonist and antagonist, but we do not understand.

Tenrikyo /Tenrikyo /God’s Anger

Yesterday, I saw the display of lightening, and heard and felt the roar of thunder. This reminded me of the verse in the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki) telling us the source of the thunder.

In this world, landslides, thunder, earthquakes,

and great winds are all from the anger and regret of God. 6-91

In the same chapter, God initially refers to himself as Tsukihi or Moon/Sun. Is this coincidence, or is God telling us that he has control of everything in the universe including the moon and the sun? Is it also possible that God uses the sun and moon in creating earthquakes and other natural disasters? A recent article by Josh Hrala suggests that the sun and moon may cause earthquakes. The following is the first paragraph of his article:

Researchers in the US have found a link between the position of the Sun and Moon and small tremors deep within the San Andreas Fault – suggesting that the gravitational pull of the astronomical bodies could be causing the Earth’s plates to move up and down like the ocean’s tides.

Ironically it may not be pollution causing our climate changes, but it may be from God’s anger and regret. I picture Zeus with a thunderbolt ready to strike the earth below. But what is causing God’s anger and regret?

Digging Up the Truth

How many of us have complete faith in God? Like the test where the motivator speaker falls back and someone catches his fall. If we fall now, can we depend on God to save us? Who among us can solely depend on God when worldly matters like suffering, inconveniences, and temptations bombard us daily? In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), God tells us to remove evil (greed, arrogance, miserliness, covetousness, and self love) from our minds first to receive God’s blessings. This is a difficult process, and one may want to initially think twice before falling back to have God catch us.

I shall let you dig up the root of this world’s becoming origin
if you have the strength, do your best to dig it up. 5-86

If only you have dug up this root completely,
no one will be your match, whoever one may be. 5-87

“Digging up” the root of the world’s origin refers to removing evil from our minds. This is a difficult process because sometimes like the dirt that falls back into the hole, our minds regress and we succumb to our evil thoughts. But if we continue to calm our minds and not act upon our evil thoughts, then these thoughts will eventually be eliminated. By this process, our minds become closer to God’s pure mind. It is by attaining this pure mind that God guarantees his blessings and protection. It is with this pure mind that God guarantees you safety in spreading the truths and prayer (Joyous Service) that will bring upon everlasting joy and peace to the world.
