The truth of causality

The importance of understanding causality is the first step in one’s salvation, and of the world. The law of cause and effect states that good thoughts and actions bring forth joy, and evil (arrogance, greed, and self love) thoughts and actions bring forth suffering in the future. The following is from the Osashizu:

About what is called “causality,” even if you desire something to happen, it may not happen. Again, even if you desire something not to happen, it may happen. This is causality, causality in the world. You have to go through your causality one way or another….. I speak of causality. To maintain tanno (positive acceptance) through whatever difficulty is the way to repent the causality from your previous actions. There is no way to repent the causality from you previous actions but this. March 23, 1899

It is important to understand causality because it allows us to understand and accept the mysteries of our daily occurrences. But more important, it allows us to plant the good seeds (good thoughts and actions) that will blossom into a joyous life in the future. Causality allows us to have control of our future.

Omnipresent God

The following verse may pertain to all religions. This is from the Osashizu.

As long as you are concerned only about your own interests, you cannot be called brothers and sisters. There is not a single thing you should fear. There is someone who always accompanies you. Who is it that accompanies you? From Heaven, I am always there for you.  August 10, 1902

God’s Truths

Having the truth is important, but without putting the truth into action, the truth by itself is useless.  In the Osashizu, it is said that having God’s truth is like a beautiful painting. No matter how many times people may look at it, that will serve no purpose if they do no more than merely admire how beautiful it is painted.  Everyone must understand and settle its truth in the mind. One must put the truth into action.

Another example is like a calculus problem. The formulas (truths) are given to you, but without putting the formulas to work, one cannot solve the problem.

The path of salvation is difficult because one must first find the truth. One must be wary because there are many religions that profess that they have God’s truth. But like the calculus problem, the truth by itself does not get you through the course. One must apply the truth to the occurrences that happen daily.

God is said to help people in attaining the truth. But attaining the truth is only a small part to the path of salvation. It is the application of the truth in our daily lives that is the most difficult. It is our self-centered mind that prevents us from utilizing the truth that God provides us. This is why we must eliminate greed, arrogance, and self-love to purify our minds. When our minds become purified, God’s truths become incorporated in our lives, and we are assured of a joyous future.

Why do we have joy?

The following blog is the same blog from yesterday. It attempts to replace the negative topic of suffering with the positive subject of joy, to accentuate the positive in religion.

In our lives, there are facts of life that we have complete faith in, like the law of gravity, the earth is round, we are born and die, etc.  Most of what occurs in our lives makes sense to us. When a problem occurs, we try to resolve it by finding the cause of it. Everything has to make sense to us. Yet there are events in our lives that are mysterious to us. Why do some people have happy lives?  How do we find joy?

Religions have appeared to answer some of these mysteries. Some profess these blessings are a result of faith in God.  Others say they are God’s rewards for living life without sin.  Possibly the answer to these mysteries already exist.  This one explanation that coincides with our quest to find meaning to finding joy is the Law of Causality.

What comes around goes around. What one sows, one reaps. These are all quotes about the law of causality (karma, innen). Good actions and thoughts bring forth joy, and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and actions bring forth suffering in the future. For many, the problem arises in understanding this concept due to the prolong lapse of time between cause and effect, sometimes extending to next lives (reincarnation).  Our joy now is a result of our past thoughts and actions.

Understand causality does explain many of the mysteries that occur in our lives, and it gives us comfort knowing that we can change our future by our actions and thoughts of today. Karma, causality and innen are not fatalistic explanations, but are opportunistic concepts that provide information on how to obtain joy in the future for all mankind. Remove greed, arrogance, and self love from your minds.  Watch for God’s blessings!

Why does tragedy occur?

Religions have appeared to answer some of these mysteries. Some profess these sufferings as God’s test to prove the individual’s worth for entry into eternal blessed. Others say they are God’s punishment for their sins. Possibly the answer to these mysteries already exist, but our self-centered minds are not yet ready to acknowledge their presence. This one explanation that coincides with our quest to find meaning to any occurrence is the Law of Causality.

Why God Created Mankind

Why did God create mankind?  Did he create us to praise, sacrifice and worship him? Did he want us to tend his garden? We certainly cannot say that we as human beings have taken care of the earth. In the Tip of the Writing Brush is the following:

The reason God began human beings was the desire to see you lead a joyous life. 14-25

God refers to himself as the parent in the following verse.

To God, everyone is a child of mine. All of you know that I am your Parent. 4-79

As a parent, all we wish is our children to be happy in life. This is the ultimate wish of all parents. When our children are happy and content, we are happy. If we are so bold to assume, God is most happy when his children are happy. I believe that this joyous life of all his children is what will make him spirited and happy. This is why he created mankind.

Punishment or Guidance?

Everyday there are people who are evil. Look at the news. People are findings ways to inconvenience others. Whether it is people that hack the Internet, or people that harm others, there are many people who think only of themselves. Do these people worry about salvation and what would happen in the after life? Probably not since selfish people usually do not have long-term goals. But what would change their behaviors?

How about if God would shorten the time lapse between cause and effect of the law of causality?  The law of cause and effect state that good thoughts and actions bring forth joy, and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and actions bring forth suffering in the future. But the time lapse between cause and effect is usually prolonged, making this relationship difficult to understand for the selfish mind.

Suppose God places illness or disease on the body, shortening the time interval between cause and effect. Would these selfish people understand God’s guidance or would they fear God’s wrath? Whether they understand God’s guidance or fear God’s wrath does not matter for law-abiding citizens. Their evil actions will probably subside. But for God, the intention is to purify the mind by guidance, and not punishment.

It is this guidance from God that we pray for daily. We pray not to punish the evil, but to guide them to eliminate the evils in their minds. When disease or illness is manifested, we hope that these inconveniences are not thought as punishment, but as God’s guidance. When the mind becomes pure, the illness is returned to God, and the future becomes joyous (the law of cause and effect).

Cause and effect as the secret of life

How important is it to understand causality in order to have a joyous and spirited life? By understanding causality, we can also understand that the body is a thing borrowed from God and the mind is ours to use as we please.  How we use our mind is reflected on our borrowed bodies. If we act with evil intentions, this self regulating mechanism will bring upon suffering to our bodies. When these misfortunes or sufferings occur, we realize that we are not the ultimate masters of our bodies.  The following is a verse from the Osashizu concerning causality:

Not understanding the truth of causality will never do. Causality refers to the same one truth as a “thing borrowed.” Something that comes about is causality; something that does not come about is also causality. From this, understand. February 10, 1901

The law of cause and effect reveals that we cannot change our future, and that we can change our future.  Does this sound confusing? No matter how much we pray, what we want to happen may not occur, and what we don’t want to happen may happen. This is the effect of the law of cause and effect. We cannot go back and change what we have done (cause).  Our past actions, whether good or bad will be reflected back to the body. To some, this may appear fatalistic, and depressing. But by the law of causality, we can change our behavior today, and bring forth joy in our future. By removing evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) today, we can guarantee a joyous future. This law or self regulating mechanism gives us the ultimate control of our future.

Changing your future

How important is it to understand causality (law of cause and effect) in order to understand God’s intentions. By understanding causality, we can also understand that the body is a thing borrowed from God and the mind is ours to use.  How we use our mind is reflected on our borrowed bodies. We do not have 100 percent control of what happens to us, although our mind sometimes mistakenly thinks we do.  The following is a quote from the Osashizu:

Not understanding the truth of causality will never do. Causality refers to the same one truth as a “thing borrowed.” Something that comes about is causality; something that does not come about is also causality. From this, understand. February 10, 1901

The law of cause and effect explains that we cannot change our future, and also it says that we can change our future.  Does this sound confusing? No matter how much we pray, what we want to happen may not occur, and what we don’t want to happen may happen. This is the law of cause and effect. We cannot change this part of the future because the effect is the result of our past actions. We cannot go back in the past to change our actions. But we can change our actions today and change our future. By removing evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) today, we can guarantee a joyous future. Acknowledging this concept of law of cause and effect gives us the ability to have a joyous future. This is the future that God wanted when he created mankind.
