Pure Mind Results in Happy Life
Somethings to Ponder.
God tells us when we attain the pure mind, only joy will come from our hearts. But God tells us the path to the Original mind is difficult, but it is marvelous when it is attained.
This path is somehow difficult, and marvelous
path that exist. Certainly look at it 4-101
This path is the truth. The Original pure mind is a difficult
path that exist. All must ponder! 10-35
What is the path to the Original mind? When suffering, or obstacles appears in one’s life, not to blame others or God. One must ponder one’s own mind of evil thoughts or dusts instead. One must not act upon the evil thoughts when obstacles appear. God tells us that we can gradually purify our minds when we do this. But in reality how difficult is this to do? It is because we have these evil thoughts in our mind, that makes it difficult to change our behavior.
For example, how many times have you been irritated by waiters or waitresses at restaurants, or by your co-workers? Even another good example would be your spouse? Does your spouse do things that annoy you? God tells us that when people place obstacles in front of you, not to be angered; but one should ponder one’s own minds to see why one is angry. Ponder the dusts or evil thoughts in your mind. These thoughts are regret, covetousness, self-love, greed, and arrogance. From my personal experience this is difficult to do. Instead I am often regretting my actions or words that I know goes against God’s teachings. I need to remind myself to ponder my own mind when obstacles occur.
It is because we have dusts in our minds that suffering or obstacles will continue to appear in our lives. We often try to change the behavior and thinking of others when obstacles appear; but we need to first change our way of thinking. More specifically, we need to purify our own mind before we can help others. This is the same with our prayer, the Joyous Service. Our minds must be pure, before God accepts our prayer to save others. The horse (pure mind) goes before the cart (prayer).

How Do We Spread God’s Truths
Somethings to Ponder. Why our religion does not grow? Out of 7-8 billion people on earth, only .03% are Tenrikyo members. This is almost 0%. It does not appear that we are not doing a good job spreading the teachings.
In the Ofudesaki, God uses agricultural words, and compares the harvesting of crops with the harvesting of new members to our places of worship. These terms like planting the seeds, weeding, fertilizer, and harvesting (ryuukei), were familar with the local farmers of Yamato. No, God was not teaching them to harvest crops! God was teaching them, and us now, how to save others, and bring new members to our places of worship. The method used were metaphors to help the people more easily understand the teachings. Let go over the agricultural terms.
First God gives us the truth or the seeds. The truth is the Original pure mind (shinjitsu) and how to attain this mind. In the Ofudesaki the word shinjitsu is often found. This is the Original pure mind that was given to the first parents from God. This is the mind God wants us to return to. This is a mind without, disappointment (regret), covetousness, self-love, greed, and arrogance. When one attains the Original pure mind, only joy will come forth from our own hearts/souls. This is the truth we must spread to others.
Weeding refers to the process of purifying our own minds by understanding the Original pure mind. God often guides us to help us purify our own minds. We must purify our own mind before we can spread the truths to others.
The expression planting the seed, is often called hinokishin, derived from hito no kishin, or a person’s contribution to God. In the Ofudesaki, the word hinokishin is not found. In the Songs for the Service, the word refers to the spreading of God’s truths. We must plant the seed of the Original pure mind in the minds of other people. I know this is contrary to what we are currently taught as hinokishin.
The fertilizer is the Joyous Service. In the world, it is difficult for people to understand the truth of the Original pure mind. God has given us a special prayer, asking God to help us convince the people we have spread God’s truth to. With the acceptance of our prayer, God will guide these people to purify their own minds.
Harvesting of crops refers to the people who come to our places of worship because of the previous steps taken. We usually heal their illness given by God, and teach them further about God’s truth.
This is only a brief summary of the Ofudesaki. God has given us the truths to purify our own minds, and then spread the teachings to others. This is all in the Ofudesaki! Only when these steps are taken, will our religion spread like wild fire, but more importantly, there will be complete joy in the world.

The 5 Evil Dusts
Somethings to Ponder. God tells us about the 5 dusts or evil thoughts in the Ofudesaki. These are regret (oshii), covetousness (hoshii), self-love (kawaii), greed (yoku), and arrogance (kouman). These dust we often think about them, and say how profound these teachings about the dusts are. God tells us that by only acknowledging these dusts, it is like looking at a picture and saying how beautiful it is. It is not enough, we need to settle these dust in our own minds, and spread it to the world.
First of all, you may be saying that there are 8 dusts. But in the Ofudesaki,God tells us of only 5 dusts.
These paths are regret, covetousness, self-love,
Greed, and arrogance. These are the dusts. 3-96
The ones missing you say are anger, grudge bearing and hate. These three purported dusts arise from the 5 dusts mentioned in the Ofudesaki. Anger is an emotion that arises from the 5 dusts, especially the dust of arrogance. The other two, grudge bearing and hate are actions that we may take upon, from the emotion of anger. This is why only the 5 dusts are mentioned in the Ofudesaki.
How do we know, when we have these evil thoughts in our mind? Emotions like anger may give us a clue. God tells us if we have anger, we do not know the teachings. How do we prevent anger from occuring? Remember anger arise from having a combination of the 5 dusts, especially arrogance. We must remove these dusts from our minds, especially the dust of arrogance.
In the Ofudesaki God tells us how to gradually remove our evil thoughts. This is the main theme in this valuable scripture. God also tells us how to spread these teachings to the world.
By attaining the Original pure mind, God tells us that our heart/souls will bring upon only joy. Again we need to settle these truths in our own minds, and then spread it to the world.
Our Services and ceremonies are important, but secondary. We must first spread God’s truth about the Original pure mind.
