Purpose of Prayer

According to the Ofudesaki, God tells us that illness and sufferings occurs because the mistaken mind’s path exist.  Our actions upon the evil thoughts in our minds results in the inevitable sufferings to ourselves in the future. We reap what we have sowed. These evil thoughts are greed, arrogance, disappointment, covetousness, and self-love. It is these thoughts, that God tells us to remove from our minds so we do not act upon them.
Whatever happens, illness that is said, furthermore is unacceptable.
Because the mistaken mind’s path exist.  3-97

These paths are disappointment, covetousness, self-love,
greed, and arrogance. These are the dusts.  3-98

God wants us to remove these evil thoughts from our minds. God tells us that when one attains the pure mind, our minds will become spirited, and only joy will come from our own hearts/souls.
This is the message we should spread to the world. In the Ofudesaki, God gives us the instructions to purify our own minds. God also gives us the ingredients to share these truths to the world. Unfortunately, like in most religions, ceremonies, rituals and prayers have prioritized over the truths that God wants to convey. Are ceremonies and ritual important in religion? Yes, but they should come secondary to the core teachings of God.
What is the purpose of our Services, and prayers? Is it to appease, praise, acknowledge, offer tidings and sacrifices to an all powerful God. In many religions, this appears to be the case. But in the Ofudesaki, God is called the parent, who cares for all human beings. This loving God grants us a special prayer, that helps us to spread God’s teachings to save others.
God has granted us the Joyous Service. It is called the salvation Service, as it is meant to save everyone. By this special prayer, we are asking God to help purify the minds of the people we have spread God’s teachings to. With the mind purified, only joy with come from their hearts. This is why God created human beings, to live the Joyous life.
The problem arises when God’s teachings of the Original pure mind, and how to attain this mind, is not conveyed first. But more emphasis is placed on the salvation services, and its ceremonies which should take place afterwards.  We are putting the cart before the horse.  This is why most of our prayers are not being answered by God. In the Ofudesaki, God tells us that when our minds are purified, God will accept our prayers and provide any blessings. These blessings help us convey God’s truth to others. Remember the members of the Tenrikyo Religion only comprise of only a scant .04 percent of the world population today. We need to spread God’s truths to the world! These instructions are all in the Ofudesaki.

The Worst Karma

According to the Federal Trade Commission , in 2022 8.8 billion dollars were lost to scams. Can you imagine everyday, there are people thinking to gain their wealth by deception at the expense of others. How selfish and greedy they are. In the Ofudesaki, God tells us that when we attain the Original pure mind, any blessings are possible. The pure mind, brings upon a happy life. But what happens to these selfish people who bring upon sufferings to others?
In the Ofudesaki, there are two verses that may suggest that it may not end well for these people. The following is from the Ofudesaki:
Step by step, your debts pile up. Upon that
cows and horses will be seen, because the path exist.  8-54

Up to the present, the cow’s previous path, think and look at it.
Those in high places, all become spirited.  4-18

From these two verses, God is telling us that our souls may inhabit the bodies of lower species of animals in our next lives if we commit to many evil acts. We reap what we have sowed appears to be the appropriate phrase.
But looking at the future, God tells us that everyone will eventually be saved. This is why we must spread God’s truths to the world. It is these people who have evil thoughts in their minds that we must spread the teachings to, so they can avoid unnecessary sufferings in the future.  We want everyone to live the Joyous life. This is why the contents of the Ofudesaki are so important. It tells us how to purify our own minds, and also how to spread God’s truth of the Original pure mind to the world.

OFUDESAKI 13-68

Take a Young Wife

There is a verse in the Ofudesaki that has always made me uncomfortable. When it is recited, I see others, especially females that are also uncomfortable with this verse. This verse is 1-65
korekara wa kokoro shikkari irekae yo
akuji haroute wake nyoubou

From now, replace your mind firmly.
Sweep away the wrong doing and take a young wife.

According to Church Headquarter’s explanation, Shuji was not married legally, and God wanted him to send her away, and take a new wife?
Lets look at the original Japanesee romanized text that has been converted from the hiragana text:

korekara wa kokoro shikkari irekae yo
Akuji haroute wakaki ni yohou

From now, the mind firmly replace it.
Evil sweeping, to be young I forecast.

In the Japanese hiragana text, it is written as ni yahou, and not nyoubou. Yahou translates to forecast or predict, while nyoubou translates to wife. Unless there is an error in the hiragana context, the two words are ni yohou, which translates to forecasts. God predicts Shuji to live a long life, if he sweeps his mind.
This translation make more sense, since in the previous two verses, God is telling Shuji that he is still young at 50, and God will assure him 60 more years.
I hope this will convince everyone to take a second look at what is in the Ofudesaki. There are errors in the Church Headquarter’s English translation? I have translated the Ofudesaki, trying to translate it word for word. I believe this is the most accurate translation of the Ofudesaki. By this translation, God’s intent to save the world is revealed. I truly believe that this sacred scripture contains the ingredients to save the world!

SPREADING GOD’S TRUTHS

Unlike other sacred scriptures, the Ofudesaki is easy to understand. It was written in hiragana, a form of writing that is simple, unlike the complexity of kanji. It does not require scholars and church officials to translate and interpret the almost 2,000 verses that are written in waka style poetry. The contents are also basic, in that God’s message to the world is to attain the Original pure mind, the pure mind given to the first parents of human beings. This is the state of mind, God wants us to return to. This is a mind without greed, arrogance, disappointment (regret), covetousness, and self-love. With the attainment of this mind, any blessings are possible! The following verses are from the Ofudesaki:
From now on, whatever difficult illness may be,
depending on the mind, incurable it is not  5-13

Having the Original  pure mind, the mind if God accepts it,
any blessing I will show you.  5-14
In the Ofudesaki, God teaches us how to attain this Original pure mind (shinjitsu). How precious is the Ofudesaki, as it gives us ingredients to live the Joyous life.
We need to spread the contents of the Ofudesaki to the world. In the mikagura-uta, God calls the dissemination of God’s truth hinokishin (hito no kishin), or a person’s contribution to God. The following is from song 7-1 of the mikagura-uta:
A few words to speak are a person’s contribution (hinokishin).
Fragrance only one sprinkles to place.
In the Ofudesaki, the word hinokishin does not exist. The traditional Church translation of hinokishin is volunteering, or disaster relief, both physical activities to help others. But in the Mikagura-uta, as evidenced by the verses, the meaning of the word matches more with spreading God’s teachings.
What is more important to God, the helping of others like cleaning a park, or spreading God’s truth to others? Spreading God’s truth is more important. More difficult question would be what is more important to God, helping others after a disaster like a hurricane, or spreading God’s truths. Helping others after a disaster is applauded, but the spreading of God’s teachings will possibly prevent future disasters. It is like the proverb, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. God gives us the instructions in the Ofudesaki to have joy for eternity.
To help us spread the teachings to the world, God has given us a special prayer called the Joyous Service. By performing this prayer with a pure mind, God will help these people who we have previously spread God’s truth, to attain the Original pure mind.
Again the simple message in the Ofudesaki is:
THE PURE MIND RESULTS IN A HAPPY LIFE

God’s Teachings

In 1838 God descended from heaven to save the world. The instructions to save us are all in the Ofudesaki. These are the teachings from God, written by the hands of MIki Nakayama (Oyasama). Unlike other teachings, the instructions in the Ofudesaki are simple. God wants us to purify our own minds. The purified mind is a mind without greed, arrogance, regret, covetousness and self-love. These are the dusts or evil thoughts that God wants us to remove from our minds. From these dusts, emotion of anger, hate, and revenge emerge. God tells us that when we remove these evil thoughts from our minds, any blessing will be provided by our own hearts and God. Our minds will become spirited! This state of mind will also eliminate illnesses and sufferings! This state of joy is called the Joyous life. This condition of joy was anticipated when God created human beings, but evil thoughts have infiltrated our minds.
How do we attain the pure mind? God tells us that when suffering or illness occurs, not to blame others or God. God wants us to ponder our own minds for evil thoughts, and not act on these thoughts when these obstructions occur in our lives. By this process or path, one will be able to gradually eliminate the evil thoughts. This said, from a personal experience, it is sometimes very difficult not to blame others for what appears in our lives. But if we are persistent, God tells us that we can purify our minds. This condition leading to a “Joyous life” is what God hastens. For some the purification of their own minds will be sufficient, but for many others they will want to share this truth with others. This is where religion comes into play.
It is these truth of the Original pure mind, and the process to remove our evil thoughts, that we must spread to the world. It is often difficult to convince others of these teachings, but God has given us a special prayer to help save others. When one attains the pure mind, and spreads this truth to others, by performing  the Joyous Service, God will help these people to understand the teachings, so they can purify their own minds. God tells us that when the world’s minds are purified, there will be ever lasting joy, with everyone helping each other.
The pure mind brings upon joy
