Your illness can be cured

Throughout time, many of the prophets were able to heal people of their illnesses. But what was the purpose in the ability to heal the sick? Was this a way of telling people that they represented God? Or did these prophets understand the causes of these illnesses?

If we are to understand the source of our illness, or disease, will we be able to cure our own infliction?  Do all people have the capability to heal?  In the Ofudesaki and the Osashizu are the following:

However serious an illness will become, I never say that it will not be cured. 12-52 Ofudesaki

The saving of those whom doctors are unable to save is the foundation of the path. You tell them the teachings (about the soul). They listen and they are healed.Oct 17, 1893 Osashizu

Understanding the soul/heart is important in the removal of an illness. It helps you understand how causality and karma work.

Understand Why We Suffer or Have Joy -9

It is the heart (soul) we must understand to find out why we suffer or have joy in our lives. The following is from the Ofudesaki, the most sacred scripture in the world

Everyone, what comes from the innermost heart, if one truly

quickly understands it, if this matter happens…. 7-27

Interpretation:

What comes from our heart is our fate. Our hearts collect our negative actions as debits (negative energy) and eventually releases it as negative fate. We must understand this concept, so we can eventually prevent sufferings and obstacles in our future.

We Do Not Understand the Heart

There is something that people are overlooking when we discuss the Tenrikyo religion. Yes, we believe in God and Oyasama. We believe that God descended from heaven to save mankind. We believe that it is important to make a pilgrimage to our holy site of the Kanrodai, and most important we have the Service or prayer. But these are all common in most religions. What makes Tenrikyo different from all other religions?
We have a special scripture called the Ofudesaki. Some of you will say that other religions have their sacred scriptures, like the Bible or Koran. Yes, that is correct; but unlike other scriptures, the Ofudesaki gives us instructions to live the Joyous life on earth. I would compare it to a cookbook, which gives us step-by-step instructions on how to be spirited and live the joyous life.
Like a cookbook, one must follow the instructions and utilize the correct ingredients to end up with a delicious product. I believe it is the same with the Ofudesaki. We must understand God’s instructions, and follow it to save the world. Some of you may totally disagree with me, and that is ok. I truly believe that the followers do not understand the most important ingredient in the Ofudesaki. Let me explain.
In the first verse of the Ofudesaki, God tells us that we do not understand the heart.
Through all generations, the world everyone, looking at.
The understanding of the heart, person there is not. 1-1
This is the word for word translation from Japanese. Yet most Tenrikyo members believe that mune is interpreted as God’s heart. There is a big difference between understanding God’s heart and our own hearts! If we cannot even understand the first verse in the Ofudesaki, how are we to understand what comes after. This is why all through the Ofudesaki, God continue to tell us we do not understand the heart.
In song 11 of the Mikagura-uta, I will give you further proof how important understanding the mune is for the salvation of the world. The songs talks about spreading God’s truths . Some will call it niogake, but in the Mikagura-uta, the word will be hinokishin. Hinokishin is spreading God’s truth to others. What do you think God wants us to spread to the world? The last two songs will give you a clue.
Until this time, everyone
did not understand the heart. What regret! Song 11- 9
This year accompanied by the fertilizer (Joyous Service),
many people we cultivated and brought in.
How delightful, how grateful. Song 11-10
From these two songs, we can presume that the understanding of the heart was missing, and God wants us to spread it to others. With the understanding of the mune and spreading of the heart to others, the Joyous Service finally becomes effective. The Joyous Service brings others to our places of worship, so we can further teach them about the heart to purify their own minds.
Some of you may still not understand what the heart is. This is why reading the Ofudesaki is so important. By understanding our own hearts, we can purify our own minds. This is why in our most sacred scripture, God places the most important subject (heart)in the first verse. We must understand the heart to save others. Understand Why We Suffer or Have Joy -7

It is the heart (soul) we must understand to find out why we suffer or have joy in our lives. The following is from the Ofudesaki, the most sacred scripture in the world

This sweeping thoroughly  accomplished, must be done.

The truth of the heart, because there is no understanding.  5-28

Understand! What the innermost heart brings forth, one must ponder!

Interpretation:

No one knows the heart. By understanding our own heart (soul, spirit), we can sweep our minds of evil thoughts. These thoughts are regret, covetousness, greed, arrogance and self-love. These thoughts put into action causes suffering in the world. But unknown to most people, these evil actions cause suffering back to oneself.

The Cause of Climate Change

In the Ofudesaki, there is often the mention of God’s regret. This regret is often brought up in association with illness, sufferings, natural disasters, etc.  Could God’s regret be associated with human behavior? This regret has nothing to do with God’s thoughts, but with some type of energy. One can imagine the negative energy caused by evil actions, accumulating in our bodies and contaminating God.  Somehow this pressure of the negative energy within God must be reduced. Therefore, this energy is then released from God, manifesting into natural disasters, illness and suffering upon mankind. On a side note, conservationists are often complaining that human pollution is causing climate change. It is ironic that they may be partially correct, but the source of this human pollution may be from our minds. The pollutants are regret, covetousness, greed, arrogance, and self-love. These dusts or evil thoughts are what makes us respond and act in a negative manner when temptation or obstacles occur in our lives.  It is our negative actions that cause the negative energy that God absorbs; and it is this negative energy released from God, that causes illness and natural disasters.

Let me give you an example, in the Ofudesaki on the epidemic of cholera, God tells us it comes from the regret of God.  This is illness manifested by the release of negative energy from God.  Another example is that throughout the Ofudesaki God tells us that because of this regret (negative energy from humans), God will begin to work. What do you think God’s working will be? God tells us that God will place illness as guidance.  Again the releasing of negative energy, manifested as illness. In this case, God is releasing negative energy as illness to guide us to understand the heart.

In summary, the build up of any type of pressure is dangerous, especially within the body of God.  We believe that all human beings exist in the body of God. God often releases this pressure in the form of natural disasters like hurricanes, tsunamis, and earthquakes.  Review chapter six in the Ofudesaki on this topic.  God also releases this pressure in the form of illness, to help the individual understand the mune or heart.  It is the heart or mune that does the same for each individual. It collects and stores negative energy from our negative actions and eventually releases it as fate. What does all this tell us? We reap what we have sowed.  This is nature’s justice. This comes from the regret (negative energy) of man, and the regret (negative energy from mankind) within God.  In the Ofudesaki, God tells us how to eliminate the regret or negative energy. The answers are all in the Ofudesaki!

Politics, Where is the Lightning From God

Interesting about the people we feel that are evil, especially when we know that they are not being punished or reprimanded for their behavior. We feel angry or uncomfortable because we know that they are not telling the truth, and are behaving in a selfish manner.  I notice this uneasiness in myself, after seeing and listening to our politicians.  Many of them know that they are lying, but continue to put forth allegations and fake news on their opposition. For many, especially the people who are so faithful to their party, they take these lies to be the truth.  For example, the news and social media, which no one can undoubtedly deny are on one side only, are only protecting one candidate from scrutiny.  Is this fair?

To me, this is not fair. For most people, evil actions should be reprimanded and punished.  There are many criminals that are never caught and punished. White-collar crime is rampant, but only a few are caught. Sexual abuse, and child endangerment exist, but again only a few are punished for these  heinous crimes. For many, especially to those who are aware of the crime, this is not all right.  Good guys do not always win; sometimes, bad people win.

What does the Ofudesaki say about evil actions caused by the dusts of regret, covetousness, greed, arrogance, and self-love?  God tells us there are two paths that people take. One path only leads to suffering for oneself, while the other path leads to joy. The worldly path is the path where one believes that one can get away with anything as long as no one sees us doing it, or if one does not care if anyone sees the evil action. One may even think that one can hide his or her action from God.  The other path is the path of the heart, where one’s actions come back upon one self.  You may understand the phrase “ What one sows, one reaps”.  Yes there is eventually justice for all our actions. Some will call this karma or causality.

Many would believe that it is God, like Santa Clause knows if we are good or bad; and punishes or rewards us. But God tells us in the Ofudesaki, that it is our own hearts (soul, spirit), that monitor are behavior, and eventually metes out what we deserve. Some will call this fate.

Does this information make us feel better about the corruption and evil deeds that are occurring today in the world?  God tells us that we must begin the process of saving the world from within. We must start by beginning to purify our minds first, and depend on God to help us spread the truth to the world.  I guess, the salvation of the world begins by not releasing our anger and hostility about the injustice in the world; but by calming our minds, and purifying our minds first.  God tells us the world is a mirror; we see what we have done before.  If we begin the purification from within us, we can spread God’s truth more easily, and eventually the mirror will only reflect joy in the world.

Understand Why We Suffer or Have Joy -4

It is the heart (soul) we must understand to find out why we suffer or have joy in our lives. The following is from the Ofudesaki, the most sacred scripture in the world.

Until now, whatever occurrence/matter was about the world (can get away if no one sees you do it).

From now on you will understand what comes forth from the innermost heart   Ofudesaki 3-47

Interpretation:

God is telling us the worldly path is where one can get away with evil as long as no one sees you doing it, or where one doesn’t care if anyone sees it.  The path of the heart is where your heart brings upon suffering for what you have done in the past. It is not God that punishes us, but it is our own hearts punishing us. We reap what we have sowed.
