Why is the Church Wrong?

Four years ago, I began my journey to understand a religion that appeared to be genuine and easy to understand. But to my chagrin, this religion is decreasing in membership year after year. This is a religion I grew up with, where my father and mother were and are reverends of the church. I wanted to understand the core of its teachings, so I began with the most sacred doctrine of the church, which is the Ofudesaki. The Ofudesaki is said to be 17 chapters of verses that were written by God through the foundress, Miki Nakayama.

This book (Ofudesaki) explains what the purpose of life is, and why man was created. It gives us the instructions on how we as members of the church can begin to create a joyous life for all mankind. But as I began my translation and interpretation of this book, I found that the previous translation from Japanese to English were inaccurate. I found the interpretations also might be inaccurate due to God’s frequent use of agriculture terminology in teaching people how to increase church membership. I will give examples later on.

To my disappointment, I have been called selfish, arrogant, and stupid by some of my closest relatives. I have been accused of trying to change an established religion of 200 years. But my intent is not to malign this religion, but to spread a religion that would save all mankind. I have asked the main church in America to give me an opportunity to give my views on how to spread the religion to the world, but to my disappointment, they have ignored me. I believe this is the Japanese method of saying, “bleep you”. In the future, I would be happy to share my views at any time or place.

Why am I so motivated to share my views! I see the turmoil and suffering in the world. I see people trying to find purpose in life. I see people trying to be spirited, where it feels good to be alive. The Ofudesaki, which I call the Book of Prophecy, tells us how to get this spirit. We in the church have the responsibility of sharing this religion with the world. I believe truly that the Book of Prophecy tells us how to do it. It is the Joyous Service (prayer) which God calls the fertilizer (koe) that will save mankind, and not the 12 dances which some say must be performed perfectly in traditional Japanese garments.   Even in the songs 7 and 10, although the translations say without fertilizer(koe), I believe the correct translation is, with the fertilizer (Joyous Service), we shall receive a rich harvest (new members)

Please read the Ofudesaki, and tell me if I am wrong. Again I will be happy to give my views at any of your churches.

The Boy and the Starfish

There was a story about a man finding a little boy walking on the beach, throwing starfishes that have accumulated on a beach. The man told the little boy that there are so many starfishes that his efforts will not make a difference. The little boy picked up a starfish and threw it into the ocean, and smugly told the man that it made a difference to that one. This is a great parable teaching what one person could do. But the story may not end on this good note.

The starfish, if we can humanize it, became very lonely because all of his family and friends had succumbed to the mysterious incident that had occurred on that day. It lost its will to survive, and sadly died lonely in the vast ocean. What I am trying to convey is that our actions of kindness and righteousness may sometimes not go along with God or nature’s plans. This is why we must be wary when others say that they are acting in behalf of God.

Tenrikyo /The Crash of the Stock Market in 2016

Just recently viewed an infomercial about the prediction of the U.S economy. An economist predicted that the stock market would lose 50% of its value in 2016 due to the policies of the government. He cited that we have too much debt (18 trillion), and too less production in our economy. He cited the founding fathers, like Jefferson, Washington, Adams, and Franklin in the danger of having too much debt compared to production. He predicted that the majority of Americans would suffer financial setbacks beginning in 2016. This major economist has successfully predicted past economic conditions.

I found it interesting that this economist was also publicizing his new book and newsletter in which he would tell you how you could profit from the collapse of other people’s financial fortunes. I thought this information was useful, but at the same time the idea to gain from the loss of others brought upon an uneasy feeling.

In the Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo), we are thought that true happiness is shared happiness. How can we truly be happen when others suffer? What this economist says makes sense about the present economy and its fate; but why scheme on ways to profit from this disaster? I am not sure one can be truly happy while the majority of people suffer.

Working hard and honesty are the foundation of any prosperous society. Many in our nation have lost this drive, and depend on government handouts and benefits. But where does government get this resource to support the many that do not want to work? It comes from hard working people that pay taxes, once the majority, but now becoming the minority. We in America cannot continue to borrow to support the mass that has become complacent, and lazy. We must encourage all citizens to work hard so we can continue to take care of the people who are in true need. Government must support business and industries that give people the opportunity to work. When people work, they are also helping others in many ways. We support our families. Our taxes also contribute to the nation in many ways. The Japanese word for work is hataraku. Hata means people near by, and raku is comfortable. So by working, it makes others around us comfortable.

We as a nation must encourage our children to work and be honest. Work gives us satisfaction and purpose, but it also has many consequences that are mentioned in this article that many do not even realize. We must again become a nation of workers and givers, than a nation of debt that supports those that refuse to work.

Sharing the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki)

How many times has God contacted mankind? Our sacred books tell us that God has entered individuals to teach them about God’s truths. But for these special selected individual, what they say, what is derived from God, and what comes from their own minds?

In the Heaven’s Truth religion (Tenrikyo), God is said to have entered an individual (Miki Nakayama), and through her hands, have given us the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), which tells us how God will save mankind. These are God’s words that are not contaminated with human thoughts. We who are devoted to saving all mankind must share this book to the world.

Tenrikyo /Fear Brings People to Religion

What determines the conversion of a person to a religion? I believe it is fear. Some would say it is love of God that makes a person lean toward a particular religion, but I believe that this is a rare person.  Some would say that the truth and common sense about sacred doctrines would lean a person toward a religion. But are our sacred books derived from God or from man?

It is this fear that religious authorities use in suppressing their people.   They warn about the wrath of God which people should fear if they oppose God’s will. If this were not true, why would millions of people accept the degradation of females, annihilation of their enemies, and the belief in the damnation of nonbelievers? Their religious clerics declare their authority from God and warn of God’s wrath if their laws are not obeyed. It is this fear that they hold their people hostage, and prevent their people from enlightenment.

Today, it is not the love of God that brings the majority of people to religion, but it the fear of God. This is why fear permeates the world, and why peace and joy are still far away in the future.  This is why we must seek religions that convey the truth that God loves all mankind. It is this mind of love that will bring upon joy and prosperity to the world.

Please give me your thoughts!

Tenrikyo /The Power of Fear in our Churches

What is the main factor which determines the conversion of person to a religion? I believe it is fear. Some would say it is love of God that makes a person lean toward a particular religion, but I believe that this a rare person.  Some would say that a religion should make sense to the individual, but the holy books are full of nonsensical stories and myths.

It is this fear that religious authorities use in suppressing their people.   They warn about the wrath of God which people should fear if they oppose God’s will. If this is not true,  why would millions of people accept the degradation of females, when common sense would show that all humans are equal. Their religious clerics declare their authority from God and place fear on their congregation. It is this fear that they want others to feel when they commit their outrageous inhuman acts of terror.  They declare that their authority comes from an all powerful God, a God that should be feared.

It is not the love of God that brings the majority of people to religion, but it the fear of God. This is why fear permeates the world, and why peace and joy are still far away in the future.  This is why we must seek religions that convey the truth that God loves all mankind.

Tenrikyo /How to Feel Good

What is it that we all seek in life? Sometimes we think if only I can have a perfect job, a perfect marriage, better health, more money, more influence, etc.…, will my life become more happy. But we know that attaining these goals do not guarantee happiness. Some search for happiness in drugs, gambling, sex, etc…, but these carnal pleasures do not bring upon joy. Some become introverted, avoiding human contact in hope of eliminating stress, and sorrow. But isolation does not bring upon the feeling of bless.

What is this feeling that we seek. Sometimes, I feel that I get a peek of this condition when I drink a cup of coffee, when life feels good. Maybe it is the type of feeling that the drug addicts initially feel. But we all know that these feelings or mindset caused by chemicals are only temporary and have negative side effects. Sometimes, I feel euphoric watching the Golden State Warriors play basketball. But again, the feeling is only transitory.

In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), it is written that when one removes greed, arrogance, and self-love from our thoughts, our minds become purified. When our minds become purified, God promises us that we will become spirited, a natural high caused by our purified minds. Whether the purified mind secretes a chemical inducing happiness, or whether it is God directly giving us this mindset is irrelevant. The only importance is that we feel euphoric and joy in our lives when our minds our purified.

Reincarnation

Descartes once said “I think therefore I am”, to prove his existence. From this type of reasoning, I can conclude  “I am living on earth, therefore the earth exist”. I can not prove that heaven exist by this method of reasoning. When I eventually die, I would  conclude that if the soul exist, my soul would return back to earth. Any thoughts on reincarnation?
