Why We Suffer

Where is God? You hear stories about someone missing a flight, where the airplane crashes and everyone dies. They are often quoted “God was looking after me”. But what happened to the other 200 passengers that perished on that flight. Was not God looking after them? Maybe God has no control over what happens on a daily basis.

In the Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo), it is the principle of Causality that determines what happens every day. Good thoughts and actions bring forth joy, and evil thoughts and behavior brings upon suffering. This principle is Heaven’s truth. The effect of our actions and thoughts may not unfold until our next lives. This explains why some suffer and others have joy in their lives. This is why evil appears to thrive, and the good sometimes perish. By some incomprehensible system to mankind, God has created a complex system where every soul becomes liable for his or her behavior or thought. The effect of each action manifolds itself at selected times, possible awaiting individuals of similar fate. With seven billion people on earth, imagine the infinite combinations of occurrences that are possible over time and space brought forth by our thoughts and behaviors.

By some complex system, the effect of each action occurs at selected times, possible awaiting individuals of similar fate, and selected circumstances. This is why it may take many life times for an effect to take place.

By this system of causality, God has created a process where all mankind can live a joyous life. If we all begin to help others, we can by the principle of causality bring forth joy in our own lives. But by this principle, if we hurt others by words or actions, we can continue to bring upon suffering to others, but also to ourselves. In the Heaven’s Truth Church, it is said that because God saw the suffering on this earth, he has descended from heaven to work; God has been on the sideline since he created mankind. What will God do?

How to increase church membership

In the year 1838, God was said to have descended from Heaven upon a small farming town in Japan, to save mankind. In teaching the early followers, God used words that were familiar with the agrarian community. The following is from the Book of Prophecy (Fudesaki) on why God descended from Heaven.

First to help those who grow crops,

I desired to teach you on the matter of the fertilizer.

Do not wonder why the fertilizer is effective.

If only God accepts your mind. 13-61

If one were to take these verses literally, one would believe that God was talking about providing an abundance of crops for the early followers of the religion. Fertilizing and weeding are essential for an abundance of crops. But I believe that God is talking about how to increase church members. Crops refer to new members. Weeding refers to purifying the mind of evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) of the prayer. The fertilizer refers to the performance of our special prayer, the Joyous Service. God is telling us that by performing the Joyous Service with a pure mind, it will bring forth new members to our churches.

In the Book of Prophecy, God continues to warn the early followers that they do not understand. What do we not understand? We do not understand the importance of the Joyous Service in saving mankind. The Joyous Service brings in new members to our churches. Please read the revised Fudesaki (Book of Prophecy) at the website heaventruth.com to understand this!

A Good Harvest

In the year 1838, God was said to have descended from Heaven upon a small farming town in Japan, to save mankind. In teaching the early followers, God used words that were familiar with the agrarian community. The following is from the Book of Prophecy (Fudesaki).

When the mind of God is depressed over everything,

the growth of crops will be all depressed.   1-12

The mind that causes depressed crops is pitiful.

Quickly become spirited so that the crops are not depressed. 1-13

If you wish that the crops grow spiritedly,

perform the Kagura Service and the Teodori. 1-14

Truly let the mind be spirited and ponder.

Lean on God and perform the Joyous Service. 4-49

Do not wonder what this talk is about.

It is solely about the matter of the fertilizer. 4-50

This fertilizer, do not wonder what makes it effective.

True sincerity of the mind is what makes it effective. 4-51

First to help those who grow crops,

I desired to teach you on the matter of the fertilizer.

Do not wonder why the fertilizer is effective.

If only God accepts your mind. 13-61

Hereafter in order that there be no failure in the fertilizer

for the crops, please understand me clearly. 13-72

To say when this will come,

it will come as soon as the weeding of the rice fields is done. ( the minds are swept of the dusts) 10-16

If one were to take these verses literally, one would believe that God was talking about providing an abundance of crops for the early followers of the religion. Fertilizing and weeding are essential for an abundance of harvest of crops. But I believe that God is talking about how to increase church members. Crops refer to new members. Killing Evil

How do we kill evil? If we kill all the people we believe are evil, would we eliminate evil? In recent world events, our political leaders have all advocated the elimination of a terrorist group as a priority in their attempt to eliminate evil.

Evil emanates from the mind. It is the thoughts that are evil. These thoughts are spread like the common cold virus from people to people. Unless we change the mindset of these people, evil thoughts and eventually evil behavior will continue to be spread among these people that share a common ideology. This is why we will not be able to eliminate these terrorist organizations by military actions. They have a whole reserve of people that they can spread their evils to.

In the Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo), God tells us that there is no one who is essentially evil. It is only because these dusts of evil have contaminated their pure hearts.

Among all mankind, there is no one who is evil.

It is only a bit of dust stuck on. 1-53

These dusts are thoughts of greed, arrogance, and self-love. These thoughts are what we need to help eliminate from these “evil” people. How do we do this? In the Heaven’s Truth Church, we have a prayer asking God to help eliminate evil thoughts from these people. But this process is said to require the purification of our hearts first for God to answer our prayers. This may take some time! What do we do in the interim so these terrorists do no harm us?

Isolation from these people may be the answer. Oyasama (the foundress of the Tenrikyo Church) once told a follower that sometimes it might be wise to avoid a person who has the dusts of evil in their minds. Sometimes when we get close to evil, evil may get on us. For example, sometimes when we confront an angry person, we end up angry also.

Should America isolate itself from these nations that have different ideology and wait for our prayers of peace to take effect? Something to ponder over.

A Religion of Peace?

There have been recent allegations that a particular religion is not a religion of peace. One question to ask these members of this particular religion is, “ If God or your religion tells you to kill, would you?” If the answer is yes, the religion may not be a religion of peace.

In Search for the Purpose of Life/ 2

What is the purpose of life; and if we find this answer, how do we attain this? Many great scholars, and religious people have spent their entire lives searching for the purpose of life. From a biological point of view, survival and the continuation of the genes through mating appears to be the purpose of life. From a religious point of view, the attainment of everlasting life appears to be the purpose of our lives. Can religion and evolution come together in explaining the purpose of life?

Since humans are derived from lower species according to the evolutionists, some religions direct their doctrine toward the selfish and survival instincts of our animal ancestors. The salvation of the their own soul at the expense of others may be the teachings that they indoctrinate. These institutions play on the primitive fears and the survival instincts of their congregation. They usually portray God as an entity to fear, and an entity that needs praise like an absolute dictator. There is no questioning of their religion or teachings. These religions usually flourish in areas where there is poverty and lack of education. This is an example of religion using our animal instincts to influence people. But are there religions that direct their teaching toward our reasoning skills that only human beings have? Could this be the true conduit to God? Where do we find these religions?

From a biological point of view, survival and the continuation of the genes through mating appears to be the purpose of life. From a religious point of view, the attainment of everlasting life appears to be the purpose. Since Human beings are from the animal kingdom, we may be easily influenced by religions that cater to the selfish and survival instincts of our animal ancestors. Religions that make it easier to attain enlightenment, and everlasting joy may cater to the mass, especially toward people who are living in squalid and primitive conditions now. This is an example of religion using science to influence people. But are there religions that cater toward the reasoning skills that only human beings have? Could this be the conduit to God?

How to eliminate Evil

Today, France has begun the process of elimination of the organization that caused the deaths of so many innocent people. But can the physical elimination of evil people stop the occurrence of evil acts. Our country has succeeded in the elimination of some of the top terrorists in the world, like Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden; but evil people continue to replace them. We continue to strike our enemies with pinpoint accuracy with our drones, but the enemy continues to increase in numbers. Why do the evil continue to come forth even at the expense of their physical demise?

It is the evil thoughts that continue to spread from body to body. Like a disease, evil thoughts are easily transferred from one person to another. This is why the killing of a leader does not terminate the activities of terrorists. As long as people accept false or evil thoughts, there will always be evil acts. So how do we eliminate evil thoughts? Many believe that the killing of the physical body, which houses the thoughts, would be the solution. But it is ironic that some of these terrorists believe the same; they want to eliminate the people who have different views (thought) of their religion. This elimination will never occur. They are wrong as France and the other countries that attempt to retaliate against the terrorist. We must eliminate the evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) in their minds. How do we do this?

An intransient mind is difficult to change. Religion often contaminates our capabilities of reasoning. Our minds then become easily taken hostage by evil thoughts. It is the mind we must target to eliminate the evil thoughts that originate from. How do we eliminate evil thoughts, and evil thoughts from spreading? We must ask God to help us with a special prayer called the Joyous Service. Learn more at heaventruth.com

God’s blessings as illness and disease

God has created mankind to live a joyous life with everyone helping each other. But evils (greed, arrogance, and self love) have infected our minds, causing immediate and delayed suffering to the world. God has descended from Heaven to save mankind. What will God do?

There will be illness and disease inflicted on those who use their minds contrary to God’s mind. These illness will be God’s blessing to mankind to show us that our actions and thoughts of today bring upon joy or suffering to ourselves in the future. God will begin to enter the evil and give them a glimpse of their future lives by these illnesses. Upon pondering of their illness, and reflecting on their mindset, they can themselves cure themselves. The acceptance of the principle of causality, or cause and effect will then surely change their behavior and thoughts from evil to good. This will insure that their future lives will be joyous.

Be forewarned those that cause sufferings to others by means of evil (greed, arrogance, and self love); God fears for your future lives. God will begin to place illness on your bodies. God request you to change your thoughts from evil to good. Illness as God’s guidance is also God’s blessing to save all mankind. We in the Heaven’s Truth Religion (Tenrikyo Church) have a prayer (Joyous Service) to request God’s blessing. Beware the evil people out there, because when God accepts our sincere prayers (Joyous Service), illness will certainly be placed on your bodies. Beware again to those who are evil; doctors and medicines may not be able to heal you from God’s guidance or blessings. Remove evil from your hearts today, because as more people pray (Joyous Service) for God’s blessing, the more God will place illness on the evil. Remember it is from love that God places illness on your bodies. God worries about your future lives. Reflect on your future illness; it may be God guiding you!
