Be a fool

In one of the stories, our founder of the religion told someone to be like a fool. That God loves fools. When I initially heard this it did not make sense.

But what is a characteristic of a fool. Webster defines fool as a person lacking in judgment or prudence. In religion and science since the earliest times, people that were not understood have been labeled as fools. For example, before the earth was considered to be flat, people that had declared the world to be round were ostracized and made fools of.  It is a mind that does care on how others react to our message; but it is a mind that is not discouraged, or angered by rejection. This is the mindset of the missionaries that God wants.

To continue to go forth with one’s faith  requires a mind that suppresses the ego. It is  mind that is determined to go forth even when people are making fun of you,  It is a mind not concerned with the self, but with the concern of others.

It is this mind set, that the early prophets set forth on, and it is this mind set that missionaries now continue forth knocking on stranger’s doors, introducing a new message that may not be greeted with open arms. With the passage of time more people will begin to understand, but for now it is okay to be a fool.

Life is like a calculus problem

Life is like calculus problem. Knowing the answer may not get you through life’s path. If you go back to calculus in high school or college, remember when you had the answer to the problem from the back of the book. You knew the answer, but you had to write down how you got the answer. The formulas and theorems were given to you, like the truths given to you by your religion. You had to apply these formulas and theorem to a given problem to arrive at the answer. It was not the answer that was important, but the path you took to get there.

I believe this is why, some followers and religious leaders fall from grace. They know God’s truths like the theorems and formulas of math. But because they have evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) in their hearts, they are not able to apply God’s truth when circumstances and challenges appear before them. They espouse God’s truth in public, but take the short path of greed, arrogance and self-love.

It is the experienced and hardened person who goes through his or her life applying God’s truth that finally gets to experience salvation, or joyous life. It is the selfish mind that will have difficulty attaining this salvation. Like the calculus problem, both know the answer, but only one gets there.

Confrontations good or bad?

Many religions believe that we should be kind to everyone. How about the co-worker or employee who comes in late and works at minimum capacity? How can we talk to this kind of person without causing enmity from him? Should he not already know his deficiencies? Does this kind of person care? Yet, at the end we are the antagonist and end up defending our actions.

There was once an incident that caused great anxiety and turmoil in our religion. Apparently there was some confrontation with people opposed to the religion. Someone asked Oyasama (founder of religion) what to do.  She gave an answer that was surprising but true. She said that sometimes when we face evil, it is better to go around it, because if we face it directly, there may be dust (evil) that may attach to ourselves.  How true this is in daily life. For example, the incident about the co-worker occurred to me. I decided to confront this person and report him to the administration; but by going head on with the confrontation, anger arose in myself. Anger I believe arises from arrogance. Arrogance is one of the evils we try to avoid. At the end, the employee still works with the company, and I resigned.

In summary, sometimes we cannot force righteous behavior on others. Their resistance may cause evils to attach to our minds. Then what do we do?  I believe we have a duty to inform them of our observance, and suggest offering our assistance. But most important, we must pray so that God does eventually sweep evil from their minds.

Water and Fire

There is nothing as trying as illness, especially when the prognosis is uncertain for a child. Even the common cold causes one to slow down and hope for recovery. Luckily, many of these disorders pass with time and rest. Many scientists will agree that these illnesses are sometimes unavoidable; but the intensity of discomfort and severity of the illness even with the same strain of pathogen is different with each individual. What causes this difference in pain and suffering? Much can be explained with science, but suppose there are diseases or illnesses given as guidance from a loving God?

In the mountain, I can see fire and water.

Can’t anyone see this with your own eyes?  2-40

When the distinction between fire and water in the high places are made,

joyousness will settle of its own accord. 6-5

Verse 2-40 is talking about God seeing the illness in the bodies (fire) in relationship to our use of the mind (water) in society. God questions if we can see this relationship.

Verse 6-5 states that when this relationship between fire ( body) and water (mind) is understood, joyousness will occur by itself.

In summary, society will say that illness and disorders can be explained in terms of scientific reasoning. But sometimes science and medicine cannot explain these symptoms of sufferings. Could they possibly be God’s guidance from above? The relationship of the mind to the body cannot be refuted. For example stress is one component of the effect of the mind on the body. But can these disorders also be result of God’s guidance to help us eliminate greed, arrogance, and self-love from our minds.  God prophesizes that when everyone sees this relationship between the body and the mind as true, the world will experience true joy, with everyone helping each other!

The Prophecy of World Peace

In many religions, people believe that their sacred books predict the future. In extreme cases, they believe that it can foretell future wars, and the end of the world. When predictions come true, the faith becomes stronger, and congregations become larger. Prophecy becomes important in giving legitimacy to a religion.

In our religion, our sacred book is called the Tip of the Writing Brush, the strokes of the brush originating from God.  The book is like a self help guide especially to the early followers of the religion. It also has prophecies of  future events that are important to everyone.

Throughout the book, there is one important prophecy that is repeated over and over.  This is the notice that God will begin to work for the salvation of mankind. What is this work? This work is God’s guidance to help us remove the evils (greed, arrogance, and self love) from our minds. When we begin to see God’s guidance in the future, we will know that his prophecy is true, and will be able to sweep these evils by ourselves.

If this talk coincides sign for sign,

know that everything proceeds in this way. 17-74

When this realization of the truth of God’s prophecy occurs, the joyous life that is foretold in the sacred book will begin to  manifest in the world.

Sweeping away dust

As one who frequently dusts the house, I notice that done frequently, dust usually wipes away easily. But if this dust stays and accumulates over time, it gets imbued onto the surface and is almost impossible to wipe away.

I believe it is the same as the evils (greed, arrogance, and self love) that accumulate in our minds. If we are wary of these dusts that accumulate in our minds, we can sweep them away easily when they appear. But if we are constantly having greed, arrogance, and self love in our minds, they also become ingrained in our minds and are difficult to remove by ourselves. How easy is it to fight an addiction? How easy is it to overcome anger? We need help.

Being hot tempered from my youth, I know that anger is not good for me. It causes an elevation of my blood pressure, irrational thinking, and regrettable actions. I know anger comes from arrogance, and arrogance is one of the vices that we must not accumulate in our minds. But when negative events occur, anger inevitably arises. Like the grains of dust that penetrate the surface, the dust of arrogance is imbued in my mind.

This is why I ask God to help sweep away these evils from my mind. With the acceptance of my sincerity, God begins to sweep these evils from my heart. With time and God’s guidance, the anger dissipates, and I am able control the anger by myself. We all need help to remove the ingrained evils in our minds, like the dusts that stain the surfaces. This is why we pray to God with our special prayer.

Know the Origin

The Jiba in our religion is very important, as Mecca, or Jerusalem is important to Muslims and Christians. We believe that the Jiba is the location of the origin of mankind. This is where we direct our prayers to. The Jiba represents the location of the origin of mankind, but it also represents the underlying cause of  the creation.  Both of these truth are of one. In the past, small factions of the religion had proposed changing the location we direct our prayers to. But By changing the location, the underlying cause of the creation becomes obscure. That God created mankind to live a joyous life is paramount for us to further understand God’s teachings. In summary, finding this location of the  true origin  may also lead us to the cause of the origin. Only when we know this cause can we know the true intent of God.

Praying from afar/revised

Have you ever wondered how it would feel to be like the celebrities that sit court side during the Lakers basketball games? Do their emotions rise higher with the game on the line, than the poor souls who sit on the nose bleed sections?

In many religions, there are special places that people pilgrimage to pay respect to God. Even in churches, they have figures or statues that are worshiped.  Does it matter how far we are from the object or place we pray to?  Does sitting closer at the front of the church bring one closer to God?  Does an inch or a foot make a difference?  How about praying from a distance of thousands of miles away? Do we have to make that special pilgrimage for God to bless us?

The holy places remain important no matter where we pray from.  Distance does not lessen the sincerity of our prayer.  Those who pray from far have the same effect as those who pray from near. Time and distance have no relevance to God. It is only the sincerity of the mind that matters to God. Know the origin that mankind was created to live a joyous life.

A Glimpse of our future

There are many ways we can use our minds. We can use it for good, or we can use it for bad. There are paths of generosity, and love; but there are also paths of greed, arrogance, and self love. Each path like a trail in the woods, has a destination or consequence. The path of generosity can lead to joy, and the path of evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) may lead to suffering. Because of his love for his children, God lets us know what path we are on.

Until today, you did not know what path you were on.

Hereafter I shall let you know your path. 17-56

God is able to see everything. God sees how we act, speak  and think. The stomach ache, headaches, or eye ailments may be God’s guidance telling you of the evils in your mind. These evils like  greed, arrogance and self love in our minds will lead to future sufferings if they are not removed. When we realize that these ailments are God’s guidance (a glimpse of our future), we will be able to change the way we think from bad to good, leading to a joyous  future  without suffering.

Why do good people suffer?- revised

If you look at the world, good people suffer, and babies die. In our sacred book, God tells us to look within ourselves when bad things happen.

Whatever may happen, bear no grudge.

It is all what you have done to yourselves. 16-21

One can  compare a book to a life of an individual. There is a beginning and an end. Each page in the book reflects a period in our journey, or journeys (if one believes in reincarnation). The suffering or joy one experiences today may represent only a small part of our lives, like a page out of a book. Unless one is able to understand what  precedes the suffering, one cannot understand what is occurring. Like a book, we will not be able to understand what is occurring if we start reading at the middle of the book. We need to start from the beginning to understand the story.

But no matter what sufferings we face today, God guarantees that all mankind will eventually live a joyous life.  God promises that every book  will have a happy ending. How will this occur?

With our prayers, God gives us a glimpse of the future. God places disorders and illness on our bodies dependent on the presence of greed, arrogance and self love in our minds today. When we ponder over these disorders, we can sweep these evils from our minds. By this sweeping, we can alter our once ominous future into a joyous one. When the world recognizes that our actions and thoughts reflect on to ourselves, then greed, arrogance and self love will decrease. When this occurs, there will only be joy in the world. All of God’s books will have a happy ending!
