Where is God?

Why does God not stop the evil people from causing suffering to others? Why does God not help the good, and punish the bad? Today, there are people who by God’s non-action, believe that God approves of their heinous acts. Could it be that there is something more important then our physical bodies that God is concerned about? Might it be the salvation of our soul or conscious?

What is the soul? Some people call it the heart or the conscious that is separate from the tangible cerebral system of the human body; therefore, it can exist outside of our bodies. Could it be that God is concerned with the purification of our souls? And if so, what is the connection between the soul and our body?

Some say that our bodies are temporary playgrounds where our souls are strategically placed to achieve this original purification. Our bodies therefore are loaned from God. Since our bodies are loaned from God, it is imperative that we respect what God has given us, and treat our bodies, and the bodies of others with respect and dignity.

But what happens, when by greed, arrogance, and self love, we cause suffering to others? We are destroying God’s property, thus creating a less favorable playground for our soul to inhabit in our future lives. This process can purify the soul, and create joy in the world. But it can also continue the sufferings of our bodies if we treat humanity with indignity. This is why God does not stop the evil people of the world. They need to understand that what they plant, they will sow; because it is God’s mansion that we improve or degrade by our actions.

God Will Begin to Work

What is it that attracts people to religion or to God? The healing of an individual from a serious illness may open the eyes of a nonbeliever. Look at religious figures like Jesus, Buddha, and Oyasama. Many people became believers because they were healed from illnesses that were thought to be incurable. These people initially cared less for religion, and were attracted to these religious icons to be healed. Their recovery was the initial spark that led them to follow a religion. For the majority of people, it is not reasoning or facts that bring upon a religious conversion; but it is a miraculous healing that brings upon faith of a loving God.

Today, there are religious zealots that pretend to heal in the name of God. Their deceit of innocent people brings upon a luxurious life for themselves, but it usually results in disappointment and suffering for the victims. The belief that one will be healed gives these charlatans a pulpit to preach from; but can they deliver their promise? But how do the true healers operate by?

It is said that God brings people to religion. The prophets in the past like Jesus or Oyasama could not have healed if there were no people to be saved. God brought these sick people to the healers. God places illnesses to bring these people to religion. It is God that brings them to the healers, and it is God that heals through the healers. It is through these healing that people become receptive to God’s truth of causality and true sincerity; and it is through this understanding of causality that we will be able to remove greed, arrogance, and self love from our minds.

It is prophesized in the Heaven’s Truth Church (Tenrikyo) that God will begin to work. The placing of illness by God will bring people to our churches to be healed; but more important, it will be an opportunity to teach the world about the removal of greed, arrogance, and self love from their hearts. This will bring upon joy to the world.

Understanding Causality

Reincarnation and causality are difficult concepts to understand. Let us consider a novel. If one started to read the book from a chapter in the middle, one would have a difficult time understanding what is happening. It is the same when we ponder over why we suffer today; it is like looking at only one chapter in a book. Each life time represents a chapter of a book. In a book, a theme connects the chapters together. Sometimes an action or an event awaits a response. Many times the response or effect occurs in later chapters, arousing the reader’s curiosity. Causality is what connects each lifetime. Good actions and thoughts result in joy; and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and behavior results in suffering in the future. Many times like in a book, the effect of our actions does not occur until a later lifetime (chapter).

In God’s library his books end up with happy endings, where all mankind will live a joyous life; but there is much suffering in the world now. God’s book’s do not yet have a happy ending. The world does not understand causality and reincarnation. How does the world begin to understand causality?

God is said to have given us a special prayer (Joyous Service) that would help mankind understand causality. The effects of our actions will be seen immediately or in our lifetime. It is like a book, where the response to an action occurs in the same chapter. We will begin to understand causality; and how we react to it, will bring upon joy or suffering.

God’s Library

Reincarnation and causality are difficult concepts to understand. Our lives are like a book. Each chapter is one lifetime. If one were able to read a random chapter, one would have a difficult time understanding what is happening. Like a chapter in a book, we only understand what is happening in our present life. In a book, a theme connects the chapters together. Sometimes an action or an event awaits a response. Many times the response or effect occurs in later chapters, arousing the reader’s suspense. Causality is what connects each lifetime. Good actions and thoughts result in joy; and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and behavior results in suffering in the future. Many times like in a book, the effect of our actions does not occur until a later lifetime.

Why do we suffer or have joy?

How do we have joy in this life? Even Sister Teresa at the end of her life had doubt about God, especially why a loving God will cause suffering to so many. What keeps us from finding joy in life that many religions promise us? Why do apparent innocent people suffer, while the apparent evil people prosper? Is there no justice on this earth?

Enter religion to explain these dilemmas. Our earthly presence is only temporary; heaven waits for those who accept God. God tests our faith by placing suffering upon us. The evil (nonbelievers) may prosper on earth, but will enter hell for eternity. These explanations make us feel good. If we continue to reinforce these beliefs upon ourselves, we can easily come to believe that they are God’s words. Some even force their religions upon others. But are they spreading God’s message?

But religion does not explain why there is suffering and joy on earth. Enter a religion called Tenrikyo (Heaven’s Truth Church). Causality and reincarnation explains why we suffer or have joy. We are all God’s children, and will all be saved. There is no one who is essentially evil; it is only because dusts of arrogance, self-love, and greed have attached to his or her mind. God will help us remove these evils from our minds, and return our hearts to its purity. We reap what we sow. Our evil actions and thoughts of today will bring upon suffering in the future. Our good thoughts and action will bring upon joy in the future. Causality gives us the process to purify our minds; but it also continues our sufferings if we react negatively to our sufferings and obstacles. This path of purifying our minds is a difficult path, and may take many lifetimes to purify our minds. God has given us a special prayer to help people understand the concept of causality.  The understanding of causality will change the world.

The Universe as the Body of God

How does God communicate his disapproval? In the Book of Prophecy (Ofudesaki), God warns us that the anger and regret of God is manifested by severe weather and geological disturbances.

In this world, landslides, thunder, earthquakes,

And great winds are all from the anger of God. 6-91

If one is a believer in the Bible, the story of Noah also will confirm this. But how does God create these disturbances? In the Book of Prophecy, God refers to himself the Moon-Sun (Tsukihi).

The true and real God is Tsukihi (Sun/Moon) 6-51

It is also stated in the Book of Prophecy that the universe (world) is the body of God, which would include the moon and the sun. We are also part of God.

I shall teach you step by step that this world is

the body of God. Ponder, and look at it. 3-40

By scientific data, we know that the moon and the sun can affect the weather and geological patterns of the earth. Does God use the moon and sun (his body) in showing us his anger or regret in mankind’s behaviors and thoughts? Can these natural disasters be the result not of global warming, but as a result of man’s evil behavior?

Can our evil thoughts and actions create the negative energies that are released into the world (body of God), which God then releases to manipulate the moon and the sun. It is something to ponder about, our minds affecting the weather and future.

Our Souls have no Color

We are, have been, or will be black, yellow, white and brown. We do not understand; the laws of causality and reincarnation know no colors. Yet by the tinge of our skin, we discriminate, or judge others. Per chance, per fate, or by God, we are who we are. Our present bodies are only ephemeral, but our souls are eternal. Some may wonder, why we discriminate based on what is only temporary, like our possessions, including our bodies. But there are many who believe that these transitory possessions make them who they are, and their minds become imbued and contaminated with these false securities and beliefs. This leads to a mind that separates and divides, causing a setback to a once pure soul. Let us attain a mind that brings people together, concentrating on our similarities of our everlasting souls. Remember our soul has no color.

The Truth Will Set You Free

I served jury duty today. A temperamental judge reminded me that the defendants do not have to testify, either admitting innocence or guilt. The prosecution has to present the evidence of their guilt. The defense team could just stand by the sidelines through the whole trial. But is this the most fair for society and justice.

Suppose the prosecuting lawyers are incompetent, not obtaining vital evidence to give the jury evidence to decide. Suppose the defense lawyers hides vital information that the defendant has confided to them. Why can we not place the defendants on the stand to give more information to the jury? Won’t more information give the jury a better chance to make the right decision?

Yes, our system of law says that we are innocent until proven guilty. But does this really happen. Do the police release an allege killer out on the streets until a court finds him or her guilty? Why do we have to place bail before our release from jail? Does the justice system think that we are guilty already? Our court system presumes guilt until proven innocent.

If a defendant refuses to testify on his or her innocence, what are we to think? It is said that the truth will set one free. But for these people, they may believe that silence or ignorance may set them free. Many criminals know that they are guilty, but elect trial by jury because there is always a slight chance that they may go free because of the constraints placed on the jury system. These constraints are laws that prevent the truth from being revealed. We must hear from the defendants, and we must have the right to question them. Remember, the truth will set them free, or will it?

Does fate control us?

To have faith and joy is a difficult path. It is easy to be spirited and have faith when good fortune continues to shine on you. But how easy is it when sufferings, temptations, and obstacles appear? The emotions of anger, doubt and worry often arise, in even the most religious person.

As difficult as it may be, we have control of our lives. We cannot control our immediate fate, since the wheel of causality is already in motion. But we can control how we react to our fate. We can choose not to have anger, or not to be taken in by our temptations. Fate or causality does not control us; we by our use of our mind control our fate. We can choose to be positive. This response will bring upon joy in the future by the principle of cause and effect. But fate is no easy task to overcome if we do not understand the concept of causality and reincarnation. Many still wonder why we suffer or have joy. Will we control our fate, or will fate control us?
