The Longest Mile

Sometimes it is very difficult to have faith, and continue to follow the path to salvation. In the Sacred book are the following verses:

Over steep mountains, through tangles of thorns, along narrow ledges and

through brandished swords, if you come, 1-47

Yet a head a sea of flames, and a deep abyss,

you will arrive at a narrow path. 1-48

After following the narrow path step by step, you will come to a path.

This is the trustworthy main path. 1-49

For those who believe in God’s truth, the path to salvation is not easy in the beginning. It is comparable to a runner. In the beginning, sometimes it is very difficult and requires much effort to continue running. But once one gets the second wind, running becomes effortless, like the trustworthy main path. When one reaches this trustworthy main path, only joy will occur.

In summary, like the individual who tries to keep fit, the path to salvation also requires much effort. Like the benefits of exercise to our health, the benefits of having faith is enormous to our salvation.  We must continue to have faith, even through tribulation and sufferings, because there is a future of joy.

The Wrath of God

Webster defines anger as a strong feeling of displeasure and usually of antagonism. Is anger ever appropriate? Anger that arises from arrogance is considered inappropriate. Anger that arises from love is justified and appropriate.

In the Tip of the Writing Brush is the following:

Think of humans admonishing your children,

the anger comes from love. 5-23

In both conditions, the accumulation of anger is not healthy.  The tension of anger must be relieved. Anger that arises from arrogance is usually destructive, resulting in actions that intend to punish the transgressor. This condition is not healthy for both parties. Anger that arises from love, like parental love, results in actions that tend to help. This action results in the spiritual maturity of both individuals.

In summary, anger may not be inappropriate in certain situations. What type of anger do you have?

The Universe is the Body of God/ revised

In the Tip of the Writing Brush (Ofudesaki) is the following verse:

The whole universe is the body of the God. 15-37

Imagine each individual and every matter on earth as part of God’s body.  Each individual represents a cell in God’s body.  The health of each cell is dependent on each individual mind. Evil thoughts and actions bring forth cells that are unhealthy, and good thoughts and actions represent cells that are healthy (the law of cause and effect).  Like the unhealthy cells that secrete toxin in the human body, the evil minds in the world releases negative energy in God’s body. Some of this energy may be transferred by God to other elements in the universe like the moon and sun. The moon and the sun affect the climate and geology causing natural disasters like hurricaines and earthquakes in the body of God (Universe). Other parts of the negative energy may be redirected back to the individual causing suffering and misfortune (cause and effect). The body of God (Universe) is not healthy at this stage. God is not spirited.

As in the human body, all the cells must be healthy for the body to function properly. Each organ is dependent on the others for the health of the body. It is the same with the body of God (Universe). For the Body of God to be healthy, all mankind must be purified and void of evil (greed, arrogance, and self love). When this occurs, the world will be spirited, and God will become whole and spirited. God created mankind to live this joyous world with everyone helping each other.

Purpose of God’s Creation

When one understands the law of cause and effect, one is one step closer to finding God’s truth. The law of cause and effect states that good thoughts and actions result in joy, while evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and actions results in sufferings and misfortunes in the future.

By just understanding this law does not make an individual good. Fear of the effect may prevent an individual from causing evil. There may still be no effort to help others; and efforts to help others may only be done to gain selfish rewards by the law of cause and effect.

In the Tip of the Writing Brush it is stated that first we must understand the law of cause and effect. Afterward it is important to know the “Origin”. What is this origin? This origin is the beginning of mankind or the “Genesis of mankind”. We must understand why mankind was created. We must find the cause of the genesis of man

In the Tip of the Writing Brush, it is stated that God  created mankind to live the joyous life by helping each other. The original cause of the law of cause and effect was God’ intention for mankind to live a joyous life with everyone helping each other. The effect was the creation of mankind.

When we realize God’s intention in creating mankind, how can we treat others with arrogance, how can we  profit from the sorrows of others, how can we take the lives of God’s creation? How can we oppose God?

Some would say that the law of cause and effect deals with only suffering. But it also explains the joy in the world. Remember the original cause originated from a loving God, a God that loves all his children equally.

The Secret of Life is to know the “Origin”

In every religion, there is a reference to God’s truth. Some seek it hoping to find it in ancient religious books, and some have tried to find it searching the world (Buddha). And of course, there are some that say that they have found it already.

In the Tip of the Writing Brush (Ofudesaki), there are many references to causality or the law of cause and effect. Good thoughts and actions bring forth joy, and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts bring forth future sufferings.  Could God’s truth be the Law of Cause and effect?  There is a cause for every thing that happens to us. Like the law of gravity, it is self-regulated. Could this be the secret of life?

In the Tip of the Writing Brush, to seek the Origin is advised to understand God’s truth.  But what is this origin?  It is the origin of mankind. We must seek the cause of the origin of mankind (cause and effect). In the Tip of the Writing Brush, it is stated that mankind was created by God to live the joyous life. This is the “original cause” that began the world. The secret to life is that mankind was created to live a joyous life with everyone helping each other. This is the original cause of the law of cause and effect.

The difficult path to joy

Causality, the law of cause and effect, karma, and innen is a relatively easy concept to understand.  Good thoughts and actions result in joy, and evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) thoughts and actions result in suffering in the future.

It is said that the path to a joyous life depends on understanding this easy concept. But even when one understands the concept of causality, the path of the joyous life is not assured or easy to follow. In the Tip of the Writing Brush (Ofudesaki) is the following:

This path of true sincerity is a difficult path. Everyone must ponder. 10-35

Over steep mountains, through tangles of thorns, along narrow ledges and through brandished swords, if you come, 1-47

Yet a head a sea of flames, and a deep abyss, you will arrive at a narrow path. 1-48

After following the narrow path step by step, you will come to a path. This is the trustworthy main path. 1-49

Unlike many religious teachings, just understanding God’s truths does not assure you of salvation. We must experience the effects of the law of cause and effect. The steep mountains and brandished swords represent the sufferings and misfortunes as the result of past actions. There is no way that we can escape these tangles of thorns (inconveniences). But if we follow God’s path (narrow path) and accept these inconveniences with sincerity and remove evil from our hearts, we will have planted the good seeds that will flower in the future. These flowers represent the joy that will bloom on the trustworthy main path.

But for many without understanding God’s law of cause and effect, when steep mountains and difficulties arise in life, they become discouraged and sometime turn evil in dealing with these situations. They plant more seeds of sorrow in the future.

Even those who believe in the concept of cause and effect, the elimination of evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) is difficult. Like the dusts that stain the mirrors, evil thoughts are difficult to remove from our minds. That is why even if we think that we know God’s truth and think we have eliminated our evils, sometimes when suffering or misfortunes occurs, we revert to negative thoughts. Yes it would be great if only good seeds sprout, but the bad seeds also sprout. These misfortunes and sufferings sprouting from the bad seeds are difficult to accept; but they give us an opportunity to reflect and ponder over these misfortunes. When we accept them as God’s guidance, they give us an opportunity to plant good seeds.

For those who have less faith, sufferings/opportunities may cause a relapse, causing future sufferings. For those who have faith in a loving God, they will accept these opportunities/sufferings as stepping-stones for spiritual growth resulting in future joy. It is the mind that will distinguish these events as either sufferings or opportunities. It is the mind that will decide to remove evil (greed, arrogance, and self love). It is a difficult path to follow because of the individual mind, but it is a path illuminated by having faith in a loving God.

Distinguishing the mind

There is no one who has the same fingerprint. This is how law enforcement distinguishes one individual from another. In the Tip of the Writing Brush, it is stated that no individual has the same mind.

Ponder over this talk, all of you in the world. There is no mind the same as another. 5-7

Even between parent and child, husband and wife, and brothers and sisters; there mind all differ from one another. 5-8

Even with a world population of seven billion, God because of his love for his children will distinguishes each individual mind. After distinguishing your minds, God will help to remove evil (greed, arrogance, and self love) from your minds.

Climate changes as a result of God’s anger?

Nature plays a large role in religion. The ancient Greeks had named Gods representing nature. The Aztecs prayed to the Sun God. These people knew the importance of nature in sustaining their lives. In the Bible, the great flood eliminated all of the creatures except Noah and the Arch. In prophecies, fires, earthquakes, and floods predict the end of the world.

In the Tip of the Writing Brush, in chapter 6, God reveals that he is Tsukihi or Moon/Sun in emphasizing his control over the Universe.  It is in this same chapter, the following verse is written:

In this world, landslides, thunder, earthquakes and great winds are all from the anger of Moon/Sun (God). 6-90

What are you thinking on hearing this talk? Flames of heaven, rains of fire, and tidal waves in the sea. 6-116

Is it coincidence that God reveals that he is Moon/Sun? Scientists are aware that the sun and the moon influence the world’s climate. Can God’s anger create these devastating weather or geological changes by using the moon and the sun?

Can we as a civilization use the climatic changes to monitor the spiritual maturity of human beings?

Human Greed

Do you ever think that the regular light bulb can last longer? Do companies that manufacture it want it to last longer? How about the batteries that runs the toys? How about tires that last the life time of our automobiles?

Does the medical field want the cure to cancer, the cure to the flu, or the common cold? Does the medical community want this? What would happen to the mass bureaucracy that is dependent on the treatment of disease if there was a cure for all diseases? What would happen to the pharmacy companies that spend billions of dollars promoting their drugs?

Recently, there was an article that scientist had found a cure for dental caries. I am not sure that dentists have welcomed this news. The dental and medical fields have long known what causes dental and medical diseases; but how much money is spent on educating the public on prevention instead of intervention. When is the last time you heard a community clinic going out of business because they had succeeded in eradicating disease? They continue to grow in numbers by proving that there is more need in the community.  Is prevention of disease their top priority?  Is it in their best financial interest to prevent or to treat disease?

In the Tip of the Writing Brush, it is said that disease and illness will disappear when all mankind becomes purified of arrogance and greed. It is not the lack of scientific discoveries and inventions that is preventing the eradication of human misery, but it is the reluctance to eliminate human greed that is delaying the joyous world.
